ACE 27.2 Steering Stabilizer Failed Inspection

I am the second owner of my 2018 ACE 27.2 motorhome. I recently took it to the local Ford dealer for its annual Maine state inspection. They said the Roadmaster RSSA stabilizer bar was not original to the Ford chassis and it made a creeking sound. They required its removal to pass state inspection! I am confused. Can anyone tell me if this stabilizer bar was original equipment on the Ford chassis or was it installed by Thor when building my motorhome or was it installed as an aftermarket item by the original owner?
Thank you for your insights!
Peter

It's a steering stabilizer installed by a previous owner.

I would ask to see the statute that says a creaking steering stabilizer was grounds to fail the inspection. Sounds like a crock to me.

wow what a crock of poop....
I have the same one and it will creek alittle when you go from lock to lock....its the spring....
If ford put stabilizer's from the start we wouldn't have to add them and the other stuff to make the F-53 chassis drive good...

I found the 2022 Maine inspection rules online. I did not see anything about creaking steering stabilizers. However, the rules do require the technician reject certification if he finds anything he thinks is a safety concern. That leaves a lot of wiggle room to refuse to recognize after-market modifications like a steering stabilizer. This appears to be a Roadmaster stabilizer. I would get in touch with them and explain what happened. If there is truly a problem with the stabilizer, they might provide a replacement free or at a reduced price. If there is not a problem, then I am sure Roadmasters legal department might be interested. I still think the dealer is screwing you over.

I'd take it somewhere else. If you pass inspection at another shop, consider contacting the state auto repair licensing board.

It sounds to me like they're looking for an excuse to sell you services.

Just put it back on after the inspection.

Did the dealer offer to remove it for a charge? If they did I would consider it a scam. Jim.

X2. It’s just two bolts and the adjustment won’t be affected.

Did that Ford dealership ding you for not having Motorcraft brand oil in the crankcase?

Here is a question. Did the dealership charge you to replace it with a Motor Craft steering damper? I'm surprised no one has asked this question.

There is no OEM steering damper on the F53 chassis.
