Batteries Status Display

My 2014 Windsport does not have a monitor that tells me the status of my batteries at a glance. I am planing to install one. Can someone recommend what I need to purchase.

Thanks,

Best I know of are Blue Sea meters https://www.bluesea.com/products/category/6/Meters ... the OLED display is easy on the eyes and doesn't perform double duty as a night light.

There are many cheaper options that also work fine as long as they keep working. I've tried 4 different cheap voltage displays and if you don't want a nightlight pick the blue output display.

Monitoring the battery voltage is great, but if you want to keep an eye on how much current you are drawing from your battery or batteries, a device that monitors current and voltage is better. There are several good monitors available but I have used the Victron BMV700 now for a few years and really like it. There is a "shunt" that you place in series with the negative terminal of your batteries, and the monitor is wired to the shunt.

With this type of monitor, you can see instantly how much current you are drawing from your batteries and turn things off to save battery life when possible. The monitor can also give you a percentage readout to give you an idea of how much time you have before needing to recharge.

If you Google the Victron BMV700 you will find good info.

Tom N3EQF,

That is just what I was looking for, but I did not know how to ask the question.

Thanks,

I have a small meter that reads both the battery voltage and the current into or out of the battery. If you are at all electrically inclined it is not a difficult installation. I bought the meter on Ebay but I forget what it cost, it wasn't much.

I just looked on eBay under "dc digital led voltmeter ammeter amp volt meter" and found several under $12.

Because we use solar ours is a Bogart 2030 battery monitor. Measure in/out current from the house batteries, battery voltage, State of Charge and many other features.
