Smile Adding front speakers to the ACE

Has anyone had much luck at adding front speakers to the ACE. As you know the overhead speakers are behind the driver and you can't hear the radio over the road noise. I have received a few ideas on other forums but haven't figured out how to keep the bedroom speakers and add a subwoofer with an amp to be next to the drivers seat. Any ideas

I also just purchased an ACE 27.1 and want to do the same thing. I am also wondering if a dome light can be installed as there is no light accessible to the driver while driving at night.

I had a 29.2 ACE and installed sound proofing under motor shroud to make it quieter up front so I could hear speakers better and installed small led round stick on light next to drivers side for night time view of levelers, etc...
Both worked well, to address issues however Thor should consider mod's for future model's.

Does the ACE have the Jensen head unit? If so, you have a line-level set of outputs that should be free. There are amps that will take line-level input. Depending on the amp that should give you 2 or 4 additional speakers. Not sure about the sub though.

regards,

Randy

I went a got a Jam blue tooth portable rechargeable speaker. It sits in the cup holder. It is a cheap easy way to hear the music. If you are sound aficionado you won't be satisfied but for 20 bucks it is better than turning the volume to high

I disconnected the rear speakers since I never use them and installed a set of surface mounted speakers on the dash hooking them to the rear speaker wires. Made a huge difference.

The radio does not have Bluetooth. I use the Jam speaker and my iPhone. All you have to do is pair them

I installed two LED map lights on either side on the upper bed frame by the seat belts. Had to run a hot wire up from the dash but they work great. Got the lights on E-bay $20 for the pair.

I bought 2 battered powered LED puck lights. $10 and come with velcro or a screw for attachment.

Too bad this unit doesn't have speakers or lights up front...

Any other updates/input/pictures of how people have installed speakers in the front area? I will be doing this over the next month and will be looking to have some serious sound up front for driving and listening to tunes on the road.

On a slightly related note, a found this cool home theater install:

Thanks in advance for any further ideas. I'll post what I end up doing here.

This fellow has done a nice job and I am following his lead in our ACE 30.1:
Added front speakers on ACE-Axxera radio - Thor Forums

Here's another speaker install option that (IMHO) looks a little more like a factory install:
Latest mod to our ACE 30.1 - iRV2 Forums

I made this same install in my 27.1 and it was very easy.

(hope it's not wrong to post to another forum site!)

Thanks for sharing that link, it is a good looking install... but my wife will need to be out of town when I cut the dash upholstery on our new motorhome!! It will be easier to get forgiveness rather than permission.. ;^)

Ian,
that's so funny because that's exactly what I did... waited until the DW was out of town and started cutting.

Also, a couple of notes:
1. I wound up not having to remove the desk. I used a coat hanger to feed the speaker wire through to the stereo. This was pretty easy.
2. Those speakers in the ceiling in my 27.1 were wired as "front" speakers. So, I had to switch the wires around behind the stereo once I ran the new speaker wires.

I just bought a ACE 30.1 and plan to add front speakers and was thinking about adding an AMP also. Has anyone added an AMP and what kind did you use? How did it work? Thanks! My coach has the Axxera 614BH dual mirror.

I used a sound bar that would fit in the cork board on the left. The have a built in amp. Ran the wires through the closet and into the back of the sound bar.
