Adding a Lock to the Residential Refrigerator

Our Challenger came with a strap that you wrap around the handles to keep the doors closed when on the road. I've already forgotten it a few times, once the door flew open and hit a corner leaving a lovely dent. Fortunately I had tension rods installed on the shelves so nothing fell out.

Anyway, we are about to take several long trips and I need a solution. I find the strap to be a pain, first because I have to find it , and then it's just a pain to put on and remove when on the road. I'd like to find something I can attach to the fridge that I can just flip, pin, or whatever, to keep the doors closed. I have seen this https://www.recubed.solutions/ but it doesn't work on the traditional side by side that we have. Has anyone found a lock for a side by side residential fridge?

I got these childproof straps from Amazon to put on our outside refrigerator door. The strap attaches with with a sticky back and is very secure, easy to use, and since it stays attached to the refrigerator you won’t lose it. I think the straps came in either a 3 or 4 pack.

Thanks! I'm not sure those would work for our side by side, as the strap ends look like they would end up under the handles of the fridge making them hard to use. However while looking for those on Amazon i found this.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Looks promising!

If you leave you strap handing on the handles of one side or the other: it'd be pretty tough to forget that it's there..

Actually I think the strap would work just fine if you mounted it above or below the handles. If your handles are full length mount the strap high or low. The strap portion is fairly stiff and shouldn’t get caught in the doors.

Thor actually put one on my unit. Call thor and talk to customer service. They should be able to get you a part number. My unit is at the storage lot so I can't get you a picture now. But is basically a plate screwed on left door with plate on right door with latch. Plates go between door facings so not so visible. Any dealer of Thor Diesel pushers should be able to order one. They are not specific to any particular unit.

Hope this helps.

I use a length of Velcro that will stick to itself and just wrap it around the handles. I use it for storage also with a dish washing sponge at the bottom of both doors to keep them open a bit.

Our challenger has a Whirlpool top mount freezer, there is a small black plastic piece that keeps both door closed. It looks cheap but works well.

That's what I ended up ordering. It's smaller than I expected, which is good. I was looking for something easy to use and not obtrusive. And the satin finish matches the fridge.
