Additional house battery 2021 Compass

I have a question from the frozen tundra in Wisconsin. I will be picking up my long awaited 2021 Compass TW in about a week. I know there is one house battery located under the step entering the coach. Does anyone know if there is room to add another battery along side the existing one?

Oh, there is space for days!

Yes, there is space for a 2nd battery. The picture below is from a 2021 23TE.

I'd go one further and make a deal with your dealer for the stock battery (a Grp 24) to be replaced by two Grp 27 batteries. Slightly bigger, slightly heavier but more capacity.

If they resist the Grp 27 idea, insist on two Grp 24's. I have two in my 2020 23tw and am converting to two 27's this week.

I am not sure the group 27`s will fit as they are higher than the 24`but the dealer should know that or just test a 27 to see if it will go in, and the lid will snap into place. I would ask for new batteries that have the date sticker on them. The original Harris batteries that were in my 23 TB only lasted a month and I replaced with 24`s from NAPA, that Thor paid for under warranty. The Harris warranty is for one year from their manufacturing date, so by the time I took delivery they were already out of warranty but Thor came through. Look for the sticker it should be on the side somewhere, in my case I found the sticker on the bottom after looking all over the batteries.

Maybe, but I don't think so...

Here is what I see for 24's Vs. 27's:

Group 24 Batteries 10.25 x 6.8125 x 8.875 26 x 17.3 x 22.5
Group 27 Batteries 12.0625 x 6.8125 x 8.875 30.6 x 17.3 x 22.5

The Group 27 is 1.8125 or 1 and 5/16" longer than a 24, but the same height.

Two 27's in the place of the 24's need 2 and 5/8" more room side to side or lengthwise, and there is at least 4-5" available. Not a problem.

The problem will not be the size of the space but rather the size of the opening into the space. In my 2021 23tw the length of the opening would not permit the second battery of the size related to me by the dealer service department to be placed into the space through the opening with the original battery in place.

Did your TW come with one battery? When changing my batteries to new Napa deep cycle I had to disconnect all of the cables (be sure you label them ) and undo the straps and pull one battery out then slide the other battery to the left to get it out. There is not a lot of room but doable or have an RV or battery dealer do it.

My unit came with only one battery.

One trick that I use when disconnecting batteries is to use red and black zip ties to fasten all of the wires coming off a terminal together. This keeps all of the wires coming off a terminal together and also identifies which terminal they came from.
