Additional Power Mod.

Given our unit has a 30 amp service. I decided to install an exterior outlet to let us hook up a (12 gauge) 15 amp extension cord that will power the existing outlet on the kitchen countertop. I just cut the male end off, stripped back the wires and wired it into the outlet.
This will give us the ability to power the (1800 watt/15 amp) Air Fryer/oven/toaster without tripping anything.
The only scary part was cutting a 2 inch hole in the wall. Use a Stud finder and make sure your not cutting into a wall support. That would be bad in so many ways.

Cool mod! Question: Did a basic stud sensor work accurately for finding the aluminum frame members? I'm considering going this route to install a port for my external propane connection.

Yes! I used this one. I guess it's a standard one.
I worked well. I went over it maybe 10 times then held my breath and drilled away.

Thanks! I have at least two stud sensors... one detects electric. I think I'll be drilling through the sidewall just below the floor for propane underneath. ...sorry, didn't mean to get off topic! . I just need to muster courage to drill that hole...

So, that outlet is no longer powered by the house power?

No. Just by the external cord.
The upper cabinet already has an outlet, We usually use that one for a coffee maker or anything else. I don't remember ever using the pop-up receptacle. Don't know why, just never did. I think it's usually covered up with counter junk that I never even see it. LOL.

So, you just plug an extension cord into the 110v receptacle in the campground pedestal?

I did the same thing on my 2018 Thor Windsport 29m. I got a outside recp. box with a male plug in it. Ran romex from the driver side compartment where I mounted it inside the cargo bay and fished it to the other side and came up thru the plumbing lines where there was foam insulation into the dinette seat area. Mounted a recep. next to a factory recp. then T'ed off and went to the wall of the bathroom on the other side and put a GFI recp. near the bottom of the wall. Now I just plug the ext. cord into the shore power 120v plug and the other end plugs into the box in the cargo bay. I run a coffee maker that sits on the dinette table and run the hair dryer in the bathroom without using any of the 30 amp coach supply. Basically I have a 45 amo system if I get a 15 amp 120v plug. Very helpful!!!! Bob

Nice job. I just use a dog bone and plug into the 15 amp outside outlet when I'm at the house. I just take care not to use the A/C as it would likely trip the breaker.
