Anyone have this Safe T Plus problem?

(Sorry about the sideways pics) Instructions say to tighten u-bolts on tie rod bracket to 30ft-lbs. This is what happened when I did. Called the company; the techs were already gone for the weekend (of course). The lady I spoke with (who was super nice by the way) asked me to use calipers and measure the tie rod. It measures 1.640 inches, which is slightly bigger than the 1 1/2 inches that she said it SHOULD measure. Wondering if the "larger" than expected (on Safe T Plus' account) tie rod could cause this? It wasn't that bad to install, but honestly, I don't want to take the thing completely back off until I have to. I won't be driving it until something is resolved. Anyone else had a similar experience? If so, what was the solution?

Umm yes! My Roadmaster rssr did that to give a tight high fitting friction connection to the rod. Makes sense notice the u bolts fit through the plate perfectly. The plate is designed to fold around the rod.

I've watched a ton of Safe T Plus installation videos and never have I seen a folded plate. Mine was installed by Camp Land, they have a lot of experience with these steering stabilizers. My plate is not folded. I am a retired millwright/machinist. When a piece of steel with a v notch in it bends at the notch the next step is a broken piece of steel.

Yessir jb1911. I'm no machinist or metallurgist but I had the same thoughts you did. If that plate snaps, it could at the very least cause a lot of damage to some wiring and/or brake lines, and at worst, cause an accident. I put a call in to Safe T Plus, sent them the pics, and they said ABSOLUTELY do NOT drive the motor home this way. The words they used were "dangerous situation". Just an FYI.
I should hear back from them tomorrow and will try to keep you all posted as to what they come up with.
