Awning lights on ?

I would like to install a warning light above the switch for the awning lights. When the awning is not in use, unless you check the switch position there is no way to know if the led lights are on. I have a light to wire in, however I need a ground wire, is the white wire that goes to the battery switch a ground wire?

Seems like a lot of work when all you have to do is look at the switch position.

Isn't there two wires going from the switch; to the lights?
(I'm NOT an electrician! )
If there is: just tap your switch into both of them.
If it doesn't work: reverse your leads.

Sorry, that won't work. You would be using the light to bypass the switch and there would be no way to turn the awning lights off.

My awning lights were turned while getting repairs for 2 weeks. Now it's nearly dead, that black switch is hard to see & too close the the main interior lights. Does anyone know how hard to replace them?

I just need to find a ground in the wooden box that the switches are mounted in. One wire goes to the cold side of the switch, and the other wire of the warning light just needs a ground. The 12v wire coming to the switch is hot all the time with a 2amp inline fuse, but I need to ground the bulb, was hoping to tap a ground wire in the cabinet.

I agree on the switch location, I don't check it every time I walk by either. My light strip on the awning has a break right at the beginning of the strip, I bought a new strip that comes with a pigtail, and grounds up on the awning, I may just run a ground wire up in the switch box, I know I'll notice a pilot light.

With switch/lights off you will only have power coming to one side of the switch. Put your light on the no power with the switch off side. (same side as the awning lights are on)

Why not just take a ground wire down to the chassis?
