Axis Sliding Window Lock.

Thanks to revjeffery for this excellent, easy, cheap mod to lock the side sliding glass windows in the Axis/Vegas. I bought two quick release pins (3/16 x 1") and drilled holes thru both window tracks. The pin slides thru both tracks so there is no way that the window can be opened. And the pins just pull out using the attached ring for quickly opening the window. Genius.

I am glad you brought this up. I can never tell when the windows are "locked" or "unlocked" which is not a good situation when you are on the road...
I was just going to tackle a solution tomorrow on this, so thanks for saving me a few brain cells....

Sorry Petew I quoted revjefferey to give him credit for the idea, but I never had his picture. Here is a picture of mine. I did not drill thru the first lip on the window, just thru the two tracks that enclose the window. The second pic is with the pin half out - thru the first track but not the second. Be careful when you drill thru the second track that you do not hit the window behind.

Couldn't you put a wooden dowel in the track?

You could, but a 3/16 hole is about as big as you want to go in that lip and the ring on the quick release pin makes it easy to remove it and put it back.

I think he was suggesting putting the dowel in the track parallel with the window (like you'd use a hockey stick--yeah I'm from Michigan--or 2x4" to lock a sliding glass door). In that case you wouldn't drill any holes and just lay the dowel down in the track.

That's what I did in my first Vegas, and it is better than the plastic lock, but I always worried that you could stick a thin jimmy between the two window and flip the dowel up while you pushed the window open. If someone wants to get in, they will find a way. You just try to make it more difficult.
