Liquified RV Toilet Treatment - Black Holding Tank

In billings montana.
98 degrees & 50% humidity.
We noticed odor from black tank.
Going to dump but my brother here swears by this stuff.
Anyone else have experience with this?

Watch "RV Toilet Treatment Test. Does it work?" on YouTube

Tide pods for us.
We've tried them all
Settled on tide pods.

Almost anything retail works.

We don't know about smell, but with the Tide pods, if we ever did get a smell, I bet it would smell like someone

Crapped the bed.

You ever go in a porta potty sitting out in the 100 degree weather? Ha

It's a holding tank, flush it out. Additives are cover ups for stank but some alright.

Attached is what we boss lady uses on our tanks

Came from RV turdmaster dude!

Appears to be the same stuff as this available from Wally World:

But we just use whatever cheap dishwashing pods are on clearance at Ollies.

We haven't tried dishwasher pods.
Did you do a comparison to clothes washing pods?

No Downey in dishwasher...any other difference or advantage?

I'll switch readily.
It's a poop, not a path....

Laundry detergent seems to have gold in it and is rarely seen in pod form at the close out places. Dishwashing pods though seem to have a shorter shelf life so buckets of it routinely show up.

Pods is just a form factor for convenience and use.

Soap is all I care about, but the slickity, no water drops on dry additive seems to make the tank more slickity.

This, American Express, Bugsie and my wife...I never leave home without them. This is what charter busses use. Best in the world. ZERO odors...ever. I even put a little in the gray tank occasionally. A bit pricey but so is smelling poop!

First drain and rinse the tank. Works every time. If you must use something try Earth Breeze laundry detergent sheets.

What's wrong with Happy Camper, been using it now for 5 yrs. never a problem, use 1 cap in 25 gal. Black & Gray Tanks, after every draining. By the way I also flush out my Black tank after each emptying and wan clean the toilet from tank side each time I leave a RV site. I credit doing this to getting accurate readings from my tank sensors since the day I drove my Class C Thor Quantum PD-31 off the lot in 2018. Happy Camping/RVing.

Nothing wrong with HappyCamper that something handier like a pod wouldn't fix.
Dosing out powder from a big container was too goofy for us.
We still have it in the RV but pods are easier and faster and require no setup, scoop or clear counter workspace.

Same with the liquids.
I'm just not going to do the ritualistic
measure
splash
Clean the measuring cup
thing.

Careful if you use Calgon. Some of the tank treatments when used with Calgon will result in the treatment foaming into a glob like spray foam insulation. I noticed this when Calgon and TST were put into a toilet bowl after flushing my black tank. I no longer use anything like TST in pod or liquid. Since that observation my preferred is Calgon and Dawn dishwashing soap.

I keep a jug each of Tide liquid (soapy) and Calgon (slick but pricey) under the bathroom sink. After each dump and thorough flush, I flush the toilet to add about 5 gallons water... then pour a goodly shot (exact measurements are for wimps) each of Tide and Calgon in the crapper and rinse it down. 3+ years no odors and sensors still work great. Easy, slick and soapy... no poop has a chance.

Sure the pods are easy... but I just don't trust that the membrane will fully dissolve and not attach itself to a sensor. No proof other than my silly imagination.

1 - Put one in the toiler bowl with water and watch it.
2 - Like those sensors are ever accurate anyway

We use them in the gray tank as well, we put it in the kitchen sink drain and run water till it goes away.

Yep... the PVA skin breaks and releases the contents. Then the PVA carcass drops into your tank and floats over and attaches to a sensor. PVA emulsion makes a great adhesive... it's used in the medical field.

So... did it stick and dry onto those tank sensors? Who cares... it really doesn't matter if you "seat of pants" your tank levels anyway.

Carry on!

Home made Holding tank Cleaner

We have found a solution that works for us. Here is a what we use in our Gray and Black tanks on all of the RV’s that we have owned. Get a empty plastic gallon jug and add the following.

Recipe
1 Cup of Pine Sol
1 Cup of houshold Ammonia
1 Cup of Fabric Softner. (snuggle or any other brand)
8 oz of Arm and Hammer Baking Soda.
Put it all in Empty Gallon Jug and add water to fill Jug.
Shake well and add one cup to each empty tank pour some down each drain. as tanks get half full add another cup. It stops Odors, Lubricates and cleans tanks and valves.

It works great for us and we have never had any smell or stink even when dry camping for two weeks in Death Valley when it was hot. That should take care of the problem.
Mel

Pods and macerating toilet

I have been told not to use pods in my macerating toilet as there is a risk of damage to the unit. Anyone else hear about this?
