Thor Axis 2017

Shelved the closet so it is a pantry, added shelf under sink and put a shelf behind couch! Amazing haow much more space they add!
Looking for the person who posted last fall, I think, about adding small top curtains to the side windows. I have mad replacement curtains out of room darkening material and want to do the short ones. My question is where do you get the leaders that go into the curtain rod??

Mods done today (as its sunny and 50F here; a decent day for mid-March in Michigan):
  • Installed Fantastic Fan. Went pretty easy aside from the slow process of removing the sealant from the old vent
  • Installed accumulator tank--about a 5 minute job LOL
  • Fixed broken screw in taillight--one broke when I replaced the taillights with LED ones
  • Fixed furnace: When I replaced the thermostat the heat wire (white) pulled out of the wire nut
  • Replaced outside compartment latch--had one so badly corroded you couldn't turn the knob

Come on spring + camping season... LOL

How about some details on the accumulator tank - for the water pump correct?? (pictures and/or part number).

Our group "The Dixie Travelers" are heading to Tabor City NC (Carroll Woods RV Part at Grapeful Sisters Vineyard about 25 miles from North Myrtle Beach) next weekend and I would love to get rid of that annoying on/off surging sound from the water pump.

Works great! No clattering noise anymore.

Also...here’s the Progressive Industries 30amp hardwired Surge Protector.
Its mounted in same area next to the master shore power/genny transfer switch.
For the time being, I haven’t yet mounted the remote w/ 13’ cord. Just left it sitting on top with double stick mounting tape.

Accumulator tank is one of the best mods you can do for yourself. Mine is about a 2 gallon maybe not sure but I have had it in every RV I have owned for the last 20 years! Still works perfect..

Sadly I was more interested in getting everything done than taking pictures, sorry.

The accumulator tank I added is this Shurflo one (Amazon). It isn't that big but will get the job done.

I used the pump silencer kit to hook up the accumulator--made for about a 10 minute job: Disconnect the output of the pump, connect one of the silencer hoses, hook the other end to the accumulator, use the included male-male fitting to hook the other silencer hose to the disconnected water line on the output of the pump, hook the other end of that hose to the other side of the accumulator, mount accumulator...done.

Yeah I've had an accumulator on our last 3 RV's now..just getting around to putting one on the Axis (The Axis is now also the 3rd RV that we've had at least one fantastic fan on it--love those things).

Following on taylorbob1, I added the small Shurflo accumulator and like JamieGeek, I added it in-line from the pump. I was really dismayed that Thor puts the Use/Store latching relay on the floor of the same compartment with the pump. And the wiring is just thrown in on top as it gets installed. Repeat after me...electricity and water don't mix.

I first moved the relay up, now easily accessible. The pump was moved off the floor on plywood with some door mat resilient padding, along with the accumulator. Thor put the fresh tank drain on top of the gas tank and it would only dribble. I relocated that to the side wall and it flows much better.
Because the solar prewire (2x #10ga) was here I chose the easy route install the solar controller here and connected to output to the Line side of the relay (always live from the batteries). I wired in the Progressive Industries EMS on top of the transfer switch which does complicate replacing the switch later but space is limited. In all, I'm pretty happy with the outcome.

Upgrades to my 2019 Vegas 24.1

I picked up my new coach one week ago and so far, this is what I’ve upgraded:
2200W pure sine wave inverter with remote start/monitor & transfer switch.
30A surge suppressor with remote monitor.
Installed coach DC battery monitoring system (Amps, Volts, Watts).
Installed coach AC monitoring system (Amps, Volts, Watts).
Built instrument panel to hold all gauges.
Installed MaxxAir automatic power vent with wireless remote in kitchen.
Installed flip up wall mounted table by sofa
Constructed a small table top to use at sofa 13”x20” for laptop
Installed 165 watt solar panel on roof
Installed cellular booster on roof
Installed MaxxAir vent cover over bathroom fan.
Installed 12v fan on rear of refrigerator to cool coil.
Installed 12v fan inside refrigerator to aid cooling.
Added wireless thermometers inside fridge & freezer.
Pulled chassis battery from engine compartment & relocated in side compartment.
Tinted lower front windows.
Removed the accordion door at bedroom.
Built dog steps to fit between beds.
Installed a second grab bar at door on left side.
Built a 22”x37” carpeted cover for door steps so dog doesn’t fall in.

These are some of the mods on my list. It’s been a long week so the other mods will have to wait until next week.

Yes, I have been busy.....and most of the work isn't on my mods as much as it is repairing everything that isn't working or which was poorly assembled on this "NEW" rig. Workmanship on this machine is non existent. It's laughable.
I'm going to post my list of reworked items soon. Stay tuned. But right now I'm troubleshooting the Lippert OneControl system which quit working properly two days ago.



As far as the solar, the unit came prepped with a 10 amp pwm solar charger that, WAS MISWIRED. I installed a 165 watt RENOGY flex panel & used Eternatape to secure it to the roof. I immediately got a P01 error. Looked it up & discovered they wired the inputs reversed. (Just one of a dozen wiring errors I've dealt with thus far.) It's charging fine now.
I also installed a 2200W inverter with a built in 20A solar charger. I'll install 2 more panels & 2 lithium batteries in the future.

Howdy.
The relocation of the chassis battery was a bit time consuming but really not too difficult.
I began by disconnecting the battery & removing it from the chassis.
This is best done from the top down.......meaning, from inside the cab.
If you aren't sure how to access the battery from the top down, let me know.
I have included all the parts & special tools you'll need at the end of these instructions.

After removing the battery, I bolted two 200A posts to the old battery box base. Take your pick of areas to mount these. There are many areas that will work. I chose the battery box base because it was convenient to the existing battery cables.

I cut the battery clamp connectors off the existing cables & crimped on #2 lugs. Use red/black heat shrink tubing on all your connections for a professional look.

I then attached the cables to the new posts. Mount your posts close enough that you can reach them with your modified battery cables.
Next, I crimped #2 lugs onto red & black welding cable and attached those ends to the new posts.
I then snaked the wires down to the forward trunk on the passenger side.
I drilled two holes and passed the wires into the trunk. Cable tie all your wires.

Inside the trunk I mounted a marine type battery box to the floor of the trunk with bolts & flat washers.
I placed the chassis battery inside the box and ran the welding cable to the battery.
I cut the cables to length & attached two #2 lugs & bolted them to the new battery clamps & the clamps to the battery.
Pop on the battery Box lid & enjoy a cold tea.

Wow, you have been busy. Why did you do this? Where you contantly having problems with it?

To me the chassis battery is just something I will replace every 5 years and forget about it (I will use AGM when its time to replace OEM). Plus I value my storage space too much.

Do you have any pictures?

No, I haven't had any issues with the chassis battery....yet. The coach is only two weeks new.
It being a wet cell battery that requires periodic maintenance, I preferred to have it handy where it'll actually get the required maintenance without having to take the dashboard apart every month or so.


I'm not much of a picture taker when actually working but I could take & upload some photos of completed mods if there was an interest I suppose.

Ok, good to know. Im going to go the AGM route when its time (well "Before" its time - I hope - lol). I love my AGM's. Only way to go IMO. But they do cost more.
