For that i installed a relay between converter and electical panel. Now when i turn inverter on converter goes off automatically. we did two cross country trips with this set up and it has worked good. When we drive our reffegerator also works on inverter. May be this helps. happy camping.
Yes this is what Im trying to do for the upcoming trip. Do you have a wiring layout or pictures? Or what you used exactly. This would help out a lot . TIA

So if i run my inverter and wire it to the panel and put a automatic transfer switch in im supposed to shut off my converter charger correct?

Which means the house batteries will not charge while driving or it will?

wouldn't this put a lot of stress on your alternator?

Your alternator is always charging as you drive. So if you deplete your batteries it will just charge it. It doesn’t sense how low it will be it just maintains a charge. So if im driving for 1300 miles i should have a fully charged battery

Your alternator charges both chassis and house batteries while driving - the converter has nothing to do with this.

The MH alternator is hefty enough to charge the house batteries and any other small loads.

I thought these were converter/chargers?

Your Converter/Charger takes 120 VAC and creates 12 VDC to power DC loads and charge the house batteries. It is completely out of the circuit when the alternator is charging the chassis batteries and the house batteries.
