Battery size

I have a 2016 Thor class C 23H motorhome with two house batteries under the stairs. They are getting weak and need replacement. They are group 24 size. My question is will a larger group size fit without drastic modifications. Looks like group 27 would fit but not sure about bigger? Anyone have any thoughts? Due to costs would like to stay with flooded lead acid.

I recently upgraded batteries in my Thor Chateau 31L.
I put in the Group 27s. No modifications required. The heights and widths are about the same. They are about 1 3/4 in. wider, but fit just fine. I was concerned about the height, but not an issue.

The installer thought he could squeeze in Group 31 batteries, but I decided to stay with the Group 27s.

The Group 31 battery is 13lbs. heavier than a 24 and I didn't want to add another 26lbs. to the rack under the stairs. In a couple of years I might take a closer look at the battery rack and see if it can support the additional weight.

We have 300 watts of solar panels on the roof and that is enough to maintain the new batteries and get us through the day when boondocking.

Thanks for the quick response. I too have added solar panels. Two 100 watt panels on the roof. Good point about the added weight. Hadnít considered that.
