Black Streaks Issue Resolved - DEW GUTTERS

Black streaks going down the side of our RVs are usually caused by the morning dew mixing with the dirt and dust on the top and dripping down, day after day.

On resolution for those that don't have them is to install rain gutters.

I have found an easy way to fix this problem: Dew Gutters!

On most RVs, there is a strip along the side just beneath the roof line that holds the rubber roof material in place. This usually has has a vinyl or PVC strip inside it to hide all of the screws.

I have found that the Trim-Lok Peel and Stick Drip Rail Rain Gutter (I call it the Dew Gutter!) is the answer! When the vinyl strip is removed, the drip rail can be stuffed in the upper groove of the roof strip and the adhesive strip will contact about half of the roof strip and the screws.

First I remove the vinyl strip and then install rain gutter extensions.

I then thoroughly clean the strip. I use acetone being careful not to spill any.

Peel back the cover of the adhesive strip and stuff it up into the upper groove and press onto the roof strip.

Make sure you continually press the Dew Gutter firmly as you go, repeating several times to make sure the strip has good contact

Continue down the roof strip to the other end and cut.

I did this on both sides of the RV.

Yet nowhere have you mentioned the real name or how/where to purchase these "DEW GUTTERS". Kinda defeats the helpfulness of the post?

Actually there are a number of posts on rain gutter installation. This is on no way a new topic or new miracle product.

I just have not seen it applied in this way.

Pretty cool. Does it seal up the gap entirely or just the upper half.

Sorry, I missed the name in the last paragraph.

That is a unique way to install it. I installed the same product as recommended by the manufacturer with gutter extensions several years ago and it has worked flawlessly.

Hi waynetaylor55

Thanks for the information and pictures. Looks like you did a great jog with the installation of the rain gutter.

It slides under the top lip of the roof rail and the 3M tape contacts the roof rail in between the screws and the screw heads.

Another cause of streaks are the black rubber moldings around windows.

Yeah, I know. I'm not going to let those folks discourage me from posting.

Thanks for the post, every time it rains or heavy dew in the morning I get the streaks, they come off easy because of the coating on the rv but it's a pain to keep wiping them off. I'm glad you posted this I'm surprised the moderators didn't flag those posts. It probably makes people not post when they have ideas or problems

The white trim-lock is inconspicuous on the side of a white FourWinds

But, on my Champagne colored Vegas when mounted along the side-wall it looks cheesy, doesn’t match

So I chose to mount on the TPO roof edge, also with spouts on each end
It functions as designed, no more streaks

I would assume a member of the "Site Team" is a moderator.

Thumbs up Another use for the stick on gutters

Stick the gutter on the fiberglass just above your windshield and you'll be amazed how little streaking you get while parked from light rain to dew, it works.
