Queen mattress upgrade

I have a class c 2020 Outlaw j model. The garage is bedroom so the rv queen sized mattress lifts up to the ceiling.

What is the best way to upgrade the mattress as it is too soft. I tried a bamboo topper and it’s better. I think the topper is 2” and it’s not enough. Do I need a new mattress or a thicker topper or can I put another thin mattress on top of the existing one.

I should note when the mattress was new it felt great but after a year it’s too soft.

My silly, but dearly loved sister-in-law has a 25ish inch stack of maybe 9 mattress pads on which she sleeps in her rv trailer.

Punchline.
While you'll get recommendations, the bamboo thing failing for you shows a sleep topper suggestion is a pointless thing to follow.

We don't know if you're
5'5" and 240lbs
Or
6'5" and 240lbs.

Bad back,cpap nothing.

But
If you buy it through hammacher Schlemmer they have a real-life, no questions asked, no reason needed, lifetime, postage paid by them, return policy.

Lifetime.

Ah thank you for the reply. I am 5’7” and 165 lbs. the wife is less. I am hopefully looking for something reasonably priced. I guess I need to buy a stiffer mattress that needs to break in. The existing one is quite thin I imagine for head space while it is lifted to the ceiling. So maybe it can’t be too thick?

Recommending a mattress to a complete stranger is no different than recommending a paint color for a room in their house...

I might suggest if you've found the perfect mattress for your home, try duplicating that setup in your RV. That's what worked for us.

I’m not too picky on the mattress. The original one was fine when it was new. But after a year and half it appears it has sacked out. So anything that gives about what the original as new did would work but doesn’t sack out after a year and a half.

I didn’t pick out the home mattress too carefully it’s likely a Costco bought name brand. Nothing special.

So maybe I can fit a 8” in there which would be medium firm. The original is 6” I think. But hopefully it will squish a bit. It seems this one was highly rated.

So there is about a 6” mattress in there now. It measures 11” from the bed frame to the roof with the bed all the way up the Happy Jack. I’m a side sleeper and they are recommending a 10” mattress. Will it fit with bedding and all.

I provided two links above harvested from this forum from members' recommendations that have purchased and were happy with the experience and product.

We personally purchased a 6" Elation model from Mattressinsiders.com.

https://www.mattressinsider.com/memo...attresses.html

I am also a side sleeper and this mattress is better than what we have in the house. In addition:

Quote:
Adjustable Firmness

Your mattress is covered on both sides with our premium silky-soft organic cotton fabric, providing you with two sleeping surfaces. Adjust the feel of this mattress by simply flipping it over! You get to decide between the slightly softer, gel foam side of the mattress and the slightly firmer, high density foam side.
We wanted firmer but we use the softer side because it is firm enough.

AND they have a 121 day money back guarantee.

Aren't we all?

I'm not a doctor and didn't stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.
I can only relate to you my experiences, so you can judge that as well as I can judge if any mattress will work for you.

I'm 5'7" and weigh 200 lbs. I have had back issues in the joints (not muscles) for over 5 years. I am currently being treated for a a herniated disk at L4-L5 but no surgery yet. I also have arthritis in my mid-back and cervical spondylosis going on 20 years. I try not to let any of it slow me down but I'm losing the battle as I get older.

We got rid of the OEM Denver mattress due to the "sleeping in a ditch" issue. When contemplating a new mattress I called MattressInsider to talk to them about the firmness difference between their 3 levels of RV mattresses. They were very helpful and we decided on the middle level with it's two firmness options thinking we would go with the firmer side. As i said earlier, we elected to use the softer side. I have less morning back pain sleeping in the RV than on my much thicker, hybrid, much more expensive mattress at home. Call MattressInsider and discuss your needs with them and remember, they do have that 121 day guarantee.

Have you had it for a while to see if it sacks out or gets too soft.

An expensive but option worth considering is a tempurpedic type mattress. That specific brand makes a bunch of varieties in different sizes. Getting one just oversize in length or width, the foam can be cut with a good fillet or electric carving knife.

I just ordered the Elation mattress from mattress insider. It fits the height limit as there is only so much room between the ceiling and the mattress frame then to walk into the garage when the bed is up. It should do everything well especially being a 6” thick mattress.
Thank you!
