Modification on inside of dog house.

I purchased some Extreme Dynamat recently to use as insulation and sound deadening under the “Dog House for my 2019 Thor Windsport 29M.

Unlike earlier posts, I found the existing insulation to be very well installed. Complete covering with no seams or exposed areas. The foam is solid and the silver lining is really in good condition.

My question. Would I be able to just apply the Dynamat material over the factory insulation? There appears to be room between the engine and the new insulation if applied. I hate to remove the factory insulation as it seems solid. We haven’t really noticed too much heat in the cab, but I was hoping to cut down the engine noise some.

I appreciate any thoughts on this matter.

Mahalo, Kona Tom

I went over what was already installed. With the same stuff you have. Made a big difference.

Did you also use the Dynamat under both seats? That is under the carriage. It looks like I can crawl underneath and apply a section under each seat area.

I did. Again, it helped to reduce the noise. If I could, I would wrap my wife with it.....just as a noise reduction process.

You mean under the chassis area under both front seats?
Someone told me it could get wet and moldy?
If not I will do?

Yes, under the chassis. There doesn’t appear to be any real insulation there.

I put it on early 2019 and it’s fine.

We also have a windsport 29m 2019. I removed the original foam and installed the extreme made a big difference. Also someone here on the forum said they bought rubber mats from Costco and cut and install on the driver and passenger floor, that really helped too.

I did the same thing last year on our ‘18 Miramar. The original stuff wasn’t even foil-covered foam, it was just a cheap knock-off of Reflectix, and poorly installed at that with some splatter glue gun or something. I had to remove it all because I didn’t trust the existing material to hold together if I went over top. When finished it looked a lot like Mulerider’s. I also replaced both seals because they were damaged trying to separate the original material from the seals where they managed to get it underneath in a few places.

While it didn’t work miracles, it did make a decent difference, mostly when the V10 gets all whiny when you gun it trying to crest a hill without losing too much speed. I only did the doghouse, but may tackle the rest of the chassis this year to see if it can be improved more.

For anyone who did the chassis/underbelly later like me, did you notice enough difference for it to be worth it?

I thought it was worth it. It’s not hard to do.....takes a little time but my wife said it was worth it for her haha.

Finished the dog house insulation. I applied the Dynamat over the existing insulation. I made a few mistakes but it came out pretty good.

I didn’t cover the engine compartment last night and a bird flew in and left a mess. So, cover that area after taking off the dog house if left open for awhile. Also, leave the paper on when cutting the Dynamat. When applying the insulation, I found it easier to pull the paper off completely. It was easier to work. Yes, harder to cut, but seemed easier to apply. When I pulled it off gradually, the Dynamat kept sticking to itself. Probably poor application on my part. Placing the Dynamat prior in the sun helped with the application. I used Gorilla Tape to seal each seam. I plan to place Dynamat under each seat, under the chassis. I’m excited about what impact this will have on heat and noise reduction.

Thank you for all your input and help.

How much dynamat did you purchase to do the doghouse? The installation looks nice, neat and clean!
I have a 2018 E350 Chateau 24F.
