I'm sorry for ignorance, but what, exactly IS the CHF (cheap handling fix)?

Probably much easier for you to search Youtube or iRV2.com for “cheap handling fix” than to describe it here. It’s very much worth doing but have your front wheels aligned too. You’ll be glad you did.

What model is yours? If it’s on a F53 chassis, do the chf. Search it on YouTube. Do front and rear. Get front tires balanced and aligned at a truck center. I added steering stabilizer as well.

it involves moving the sway bar links from the front holes to the rear holes. Basically stiffens the chassis so it doesn't sway as much. Some people need to lengthen the links, or buy adjustable ones. While you're down there, check the tightness of the sway bar bushing bolts, they have been known to loosen up and fall out.

Thanks for the info. Moved both front and rear today. Will make a trip this weekend to see how it does.

Is popping noise normal?
I moved both front and rear and followed the torque specs. Test drove today and noticed a slight pop noise when making slow, hard right or left turn. Also more of a hard click sound when at slow speed crossing a recess that cause just one front tire to drop. I have checked and found no damage or obvious signs of impingement. I'm wondering if it is the springs coming in contact with the bar, as the portion of the bar under the springs is about an inch closer to the springs than before. Does this sound normal?

I’d investigate to see if everything got tightened back up. Did you loosen the sway bar bushings so the bar would move easier? Tongue them? Never heard this with mine. It does change alignment specs. If all is torqued and tight, take to a good truck alignment center.

Nope, sway bars do NOT affect alignment.

BUT you still need an alignment.
Unless things have changed in the last few years most manufactures (Thor) do not align . Ford does not because they don't know what will be built on the bare chassis.

Oh, I'm painfully aware of Thor's alignment practices (or lack thereof). I found out the expensive way with new front tires at 3000 miles. All bolts were torqued to specs. I actually went back and re-read the first part of this thread, and it seems that my suspicion about the bar and springs coming in contact under certain conditions makes the noise. May build some plates as others have done to move the spring/bar clearance back to stock.

My Thor (2017 Freedom Elite) came with a big sticker on the driver’s door about the need for an alignment. I didn’t trust CW so I took it to a local truck suspension shop that charged me $125 to tell me it was fine. But glad I checked. I’ve had several RVs and it’s about 50/50 that it’ll be ok.

Normally, popping, or other noises from the front end after the CHF is because of under torquing the fasteners. It puts more load on the end links and the sway bars, and anything loose will give.

Thank you all for the responses. I'm going to build/install plates or at least re-torque everything this morning.

I did the CHF earlier this year, and took a 1000 mile trip with it, and no noises. However, I did lengthen my front links by about 4 inches, so the sway bar is in the same orientation to the chassis as before.

But it would be so interesting to hear your faulty logic and credentials to support that logic.
I've done front end alignments since 1975 as well as replacing worn/defective steering and suspension parts. I first became an NIASE Certified Mechanic in 1977.
When properly installed, (anti) sway bars do not affect ride height, nor are they part of the steering geometry - therefore they will have no affect on toe, camber or caster.
Now if you improperly installed a sway bar with different sized links on the two ends so that it is loaded and puts a static tilt on the vehicle; that would affect alignment.
But changing the link location equally on both sides puts no load on the sway bar and does nothing to change alignment.
