I almost forgot we had a pop up trailer back in the 90's. I towed it up into Canada and back down through Montana, Wyoming, Utah and California.

This thread has been dormant for awhile, so I figured I would ask the question a different way: does anyone know anyone as close to southern New Jersey as possible that is able to engineer and perform the necessary work in order to increase the weight capacity of the overhead (over the cab) bed?

I would imagine the solution would be a combination of welding, paint, and insulation, and woodworking.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

And WHY weren't you out in that field helping?? As young teenagers, for several summers, my brother and I had to help bail/put up 3 meadows of hay on granddad's 400+ acres. You quickly learn to leave barn wasps alone in a 120 degree hayloft... few kids get that experience today.
