Darken Shower sky light
I want to darken up my sky light over my shower to help with the sun heating up my Motorhome. I was wondering if anyone else has done this and what they used? Was thinking about a reflective paint or maybe some kind of tint? I have a Windsport 31S with the shower separate from the bathroom so I cant just close the door.
Thanks

I know a few people that put this on the skylight. I will probably do this at some time

Measure you opening and search for something like this on Amazon....
https://www.amazon.com/Energy-Wise-S...xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==
I put them in my regular vents on very hot or cold days and they work well.

I hate the silver lining. After a while it starts to flake and makes a mess, leaves a glitter trail everywhere. If the make it without the silver its a great fix

You just need to go to a upholsterer and buy a piece of foam, then the hard part would be to ask the wife if you can cut up the silver hot pants she has kept from the eighties... sew that on one side and the other side can be whatever matches the decor. Not as fancy as the wife wearing the hot pants, but.... you get my drift.

we removed the interior trim panel, it had the clear plastic lenses and outer trim fascia
then applied a nice OWL woodsie pattern fabric to the trim panel plastic lenses so the material would be sandwiched between the interior panel and the roof glass
this way the fabric stays dry but the light is diffused enough to keep the shower cool in summer

We cut a square of reflectex to fit the skylight and tape it up with PVC tape when we want
to keep the heat from the sun out of the shower. In spring and fall when we want the extra warmth from the sun it's not permanent. Cheap and easy. Did I say cheap?

I took down the inside part of the skylight. Painted the inner side of the outer part of the skylight with white spray paint. I then took a piece of cardboard, painted it white, and made a liner to go between the two layers of the skylight. Reinstalled the inner part of the skylight. To look at it you can not tell it has been modified. It definitely blocks the heat coming in thru that skylight. Total cost was zero dollars.

We used the 1" thick foamboard insulation in that and also the vents.
It is very sturdy. I put cabinet handles on with washers on back so they are easily removed when light or venting is needed. One 2x8 sheet covered every hole, so very cost effective.

I used to put reflectix up there in storage, but it was hard to get it to stay.
When my roof was done by rvroof.com a few years ago they gave me the option to coat the skylight. I replaced it with new since the plastic was badly UV damaged, and then had them coat it. Makes the sower dark but significantly cooled down the joint and eliminated the UV damage to the interior finishes. I'm very glad I did it. The other upshot is tat it made the skylight a lot tougher against things such as hail or unidentified falling objects.
If not doing rvroof.com, I would at least paint the dome. I like the flexseal idea but that probably wouldn't hold up in the UV without some sort of top coat.
A good flexible stucco paint would probably do the trick.

We bought a sunscreen at Camping World for the bathroom skylight It lowered the temps at least 20 degrees in there.

It should be the same size as your skylight:

I followed Don and just finished my third coat of white flex seal. His has lasted 3 years so far. If mine last that long I'll be happy. Still have a half can so I could add more if needed
