DirectTV
We have DirecTV on the home front. I contacted their customer service to enquirer about using a current Genie receiver we and using that in the RV. They said we could, just need a sat dish. I’m wondering what folks her use. I have researched solutions and know there are a number. It’s too bad most of the solutions for DirecTv are only SD vs HD. I found a tripod solution that works with our reciever for $130.

It’s sad that Winegard doesn’t have better HD reciever support for Directv vs Dish. Irritating

I have tried to use the tripod system a few years back. Maybe just me but I found it not worth the time. First off trying to find a storage spot for the dish when not in use. You have to make sure the tripod is solid and will not move due to wind. That means either nail down or sand bags etc. Then it has to be level for the dish to pick up signal, now your ready to find the sat. I bought a sat. finder but never could get both sat. at the same time, again maybe just me. I never was happy with the system so stopped trying.

I use the King Dish tailgater mounted on the roof. Automatic, no BS, monthly pay as you go. Yes, could be blocked at times but i’m RV’ing. TV isn’t that important. To me anyway.

We added a tailgater to our roof top and bought a second receiver for about $100. Cost me an additional $5/month for service and I don't have to move anything.

I would love to do the tailgater on the roof like that...coach is supposedly pre-wired for it, but know nothing about how to hook it up. Is it any higher than the A/C's...I'm already at 12'-6". From what I read this weekend, you can pay by the month as you go or turn it off for months when not using it. Can you use it at home also if you don't permanently mount the head unit on the coach? Would love to get rid of Charter at home. I could also use it at the house in PCB when we're down there and not have to pay every month when not.

We've had satellite TV at home for years and I had my RV shop install the dome and all the pre wiring was where they expected wind it. The dome isn't any taller than the AC or roof vents. Cost me about $150 for the install and we use our RV enough to not add something else to move when we're getting ready for a trip.

I cut the cord in 2000, missed it at first, but you get used to it.
Now entertainment comes from Netflix if we want to boob tube it.
Otherwise, we bring the sat radio with us.
The home unit is on a boombox, we take that with us.
The mobile docking station works too, but there is a caveat!
The sat radio syncs to an unused radio station, when traveling, you occasionally need to find a different sync set up, PITA, so that gets reserved for when at our spot.
Most of the time we are too busy to sit around for those, until bed time.
But that is how we roll.

We cut the cord and went with Playstation Vue for a cable replacement. Been very happy with this decision.
