side track...but I'll throw out another device I'm glad to have and would suggest for any new RV
if you have an absorption type fridge

Install After the TS. Bur i would not put it there. Won't protect the TS.

think they meant "transfer switch"
progressive suggested to install it in the incoming shore power side...first thing the power sees. It's not attached to the genny at all

Transfer switch. Generator will not usually cause any problem. if you put it after TS you can fry the TS. It needs to be the first thing in line.

I've heard lots of stories about shore power nightmares; but never one about a generator toasting an electrical system.

There's combination locks available that allow you to set your own combination thereby lightening up your key ring & only 1 combination to remember.

I have read a few stories about generators not running properly and causing voltage drops and surges.
I’d rather replace a $175 transfer switch than a $1000+ residential fridge or A//C if the generator does malfunction and on the off chance takes a compressor out.

Mine just came in. My directions has two options to install before or after the transfer switch.

Again... I know many people will say put it before the Transfer Switch to protect it but.....
I would rather replace a transfer switch than a $1000+ residential fridge or A/C unit if the generator would have a problem with its output.
Also.... under the "stuff" happens category...... if a transfer switch ever malfunctioned (contacts sticking closed on one side, etc.), could the TS allow both shore power and generator power to flow simultaneously if they were both present? If so, 240V could be sent from the TS and through the rig frying a lot of electronic equipment. The EMS would prevent that from ever happening.
If the EMS is placed after the transfer switch, the coach electronics are fully protected from any potential power input issues.
In hindsight..... I might have replaced the stock transfer switch with one that has built in surge protection like this one... https://rvpower.southwire.com/produc...h-model-40450/
But even still... the power is touching the relays before the surge protection can assess the quality of the power... but it is also protecting the power from the generator.

anyway, it's not a huge issue....and I'm glad to have the device

50 amp rigs ARE 240 volts.

120V on each leg..... I'm talking about putting 240V on each leg.... which is what the EMS can protect..... Should one relay stuck closed and allow power to flow from it when the other relay was called to engaged and power to both inputs of the TS was present and flowed into the coach putting 240V on each leg.

My Progressive EMS is installed after the Transfer Switch, just as Progressive recommends.
Right after installation, I read a post by a fellow Vegas owner who had a generator alternator malfunction. It kept shutting down the EMS.
After analysis, he found that the generator voltage controller malfunctioned, and was sending 170 volts to his RV.
He credits the fact that his RV was saved because he hardwired a Surge Guard after the Transfer Switch.
And, oh by the way...the Transfer Switch was unharmed.

You can not physically get 240 on one leg in the US. 240 is on one leg in Europe.

Wouldn't you need a whole lot bigger cables to handle a load like that?

So your saying if the Generator is putting out 120 V on each leg and then you add a second 120V source to each of the same legs, it’s not gong to do any damage from over voltage condition.

Just the opposite. Large voltage small wire. large amperage bigger wire.

Thanks! I barely know which part of the fork to NOT stick in the electrical socket!
