Changing out door lock

I have read that a lot of RV keys are universal and can be used in someone else's' RV. Is that true? If so, has anyone changed out their door lock and if so to what?

Generally the door locks are fine. It is the cargo hatches that use the same key CH761

If you go to the thread Jerry's Hurricane mods there are a few posts about changing some of the locks to barrel locks, battery door, generator door, leveler pump, etc. Fairly quick and easy mod to do, not expensive.

Doesn't much matter if the keys are the same or not, with a flat blade screwdriver you could be in any door or compartment quicker than using a key. I'm not trying to worry you as we've had rvs for 40 years & never a break-in. I would only worry if it's stored out of your sight, we leave chairs, bbq grill, tables, bicycles out all the time & never a problem.

Even though I try to keep my storage doors locked along with my entry door. The truth is that no matter what lock you install on those storage doors they can be pried open, which will cause some real damage. We have found that generally speaking other RVers will look out for each other and break-ins are not common place. In our experience traveling around the country what is more common is local scumbags driving through a CG in the middle of the night and stealing unlocked bicycles or expensive lawn chairs.
