Entry step storage box

My brother's 2017 Newmar Baystar has a cool and convenient storage box under the second entry step. I always wondered why Thor did not put one in my Hurricane so I did it myself.

Easy job after simply prying the step up, trimming it so it would clear the plastic trim pieces on the top floor, Trimming the rubber step liner, installing two hinges and a small gas strut - done. Now a perfect space for storing my tool bag.

Such a simple thing but Thor does not do it!

I believe that some models of Hurricane/Windsport actually came with this feature, unfortunately mine didn’t.

I had a battery compartment under the steps of my Magnitude Sv34. I converted to Lithium batteries and installed them in the coach. I thought about converting that area to storage. I would need to move around some wiring and the BIM and Battery Disconnect Switch in there but this gives me some ides of what I could do with that area.

My 2016 Hurricane 27K came with that step storage. No strut.

My 2022 Miramar 37.1 also came with that storage under the step. I just have to lift up on it to open it up.

Mine has that drawer as well. Although I don’t use it as you need to leave the door open. In the Southeast, with near 100 temps, I don’t want to lose cool air.

Actually, as seen from above responses, Thor does do it. My ACE has both the step lift storage and a drawer storage in the step below that.

Menards - step mats that I had to trim laterally. A few tiny screws to hold them in place in the corners. Works great and easy to vacuum.

The 2020 Thor ACE we used to own had a box like that under the entry steps.

Right I use mine all the time. The top has a level, tire pressure gauge and the drawer has a bunch of tools, pex crimper, tape measure, screw driver, fuses, the list goes on and on.
