GPS and External or larger Monitor
Ok so I am basically cheap and trying not to buy a new large screen GPS or a Ipad. I have this on my phone already. Google maps seems to work great. If Using the HDMI cord and mirroring my iPhone on the radio would be great, but as most know. The radio is not in a good position. Serval of you have added extra monitors for back up camera or side camera. Has anyone added an extra monitor or larger monitor something in the 7” to 9” size for GPS? I have an iPhone, with a lightning connector and HDMI adapter.
Does anyone know if you can just plug in and use something like this?
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Z67JDFQ...90_dpLink&th=1
If you connect your phone via HDMI and see the GPS on the monitor?
Or has anyone done this with the feed off the stock radio, using the phone to mirror on the radio, but also an external monitor, that I can have closer and bigger screen.
Thanks for your help. I have already done so many modifications. Sorry if I’m not clear.
Thanks Bradley

A 10inch android tablet with wifi and hey Google and Alexa and 20,000 apps is $100
The screens in my picture were 64 bucks each. They're just monitors you could hook your phone to. Your phone then becomes a remote touch pad. They fold up and tilt and swivel.
A 10inch display android radio is 99 to 500 bucks and runs the same apps as a tablet.
Both Android devices will do split screens.
Lots of alternatives are shown throughout my signature app.
You're very few dollars away from a much more elegant solution.
Do you travel alone?

So Apple took the ability to mirror away from the iPhone in 2018 except if the manufacturer pays Apple for the rights or you have Apple TV. I could do it in 2017 when I got my coach but now the iPhone simply won’t find the head unit receiver.
Another example of Apple not playing well with others.

Not to change the original questions, but....I have no problem mirroring, and have a newer phone (year and a half old) with all updates. I use a lightning to HDMI plug, fairly common. If you plug into HDMI port on dash and hit button on radio it works great.... well it would if the radio was properly angled for the driver.

Yes, you can do that. But how's that phone GPS work with no cell signal?

I was able to connect it for about a year then it wouldn’t work any longer. Apple website said they had taken that feature away. Last time I tried it I was using an old iPhone SE. and have since upgrade to the 8S plus. I haven’t tried it with this one. But for GPS I use the Rand McNally which is great since it sets height parameters for what bridges you can fit under. It won’t plot you a course that has low bridges. It does get a bit squirrely at times showing a right turn arrow and verbally saying “turn left”?? [emoji848]

Cakeman,
I purchased a 10 inch double din from walmart for $250 and tax. It has carplay and android auto. All 3 cameras are much easier to see and it can be tilted to your preferred viewing angle.

So I gave it another shot, connecting the HDMI from my iPhone to the Axxera, as I expected it won’t mirror. Says incompatible device and the iPhone won’t detect the Axxera as it originally did.

My Axxera still does iPhone mirroring with my iPhone XR but I had to download and install the Axxera updates.

Cell service is not necessary to receive a GPS signal.

You can download Google maps to your phone for a specific area and then, as already noted, you don’t need cell service to navigate.

But it IS necessary to download those maps for that area you are in that you didn't download the offline maps for.

Or
You can spend 19 bucks on a Sygic for trucks and get a wild amount of customization.

So, on a recent trip to Cape Charles VA, I used an old GPS and my iPhone, and mirrored to radio via HDMI cable. Since the screen on the radio is at a poor angle (especially when your 6”4”) and basically for my wife and she doesn’t care.
Looks like I will go with a RV GPS, if for no other reason, wife was texting our children and friends in a group text and it kept screwing up the iPhone GPS screen as I didn’t turn off notification. I think I’m at the point where the phone can be the phone and the GPS can do what it’s designed for. Plus, I am having more fun spending the kid inheritance with the motorhome now anyway... 😊

In this day and age of. Waze and. Maps and 15 others, a standalone GPS is dinosaur territory.
A one use tool at the mercy of Six month updates.
Waze updates almost per second with road hazards and changes and traffic info.

Waze and the like do not address the requirements of an RV. Our current preference is RV Life app.

Axxera Mirroring with iPhone
Agree the iPhone mirroring is not very useful. I only really like that the Axxera plays the music from my phone in the background without having to download it. Thanks for the tip on RV Live App, I'll be using that from now on.

We tried that also. I found the screen was in the wrong place to keep looking at.
We use RV Life in conjunction with RV Trip Wizard. We had been using CoPilot app prior but it routed us to unsafe routes too often.
