Pantry Slideout Door Fastener

I have a slide out pantry door in my C. Much like a pocket door it slides in a no out. However, sometimes it comes open all by itself while we're on the road. Turning into places with curbs is the usual culprit.

Does anyone have a good modification to "latch" this sliding door closed?

My thinking was to use a threaded Rod, with one end a wood screw thread and the other end a machined thread. Mounting in the wood end into the cabinet base, then a latch of some kind under a wing nut. This would allow me to tighten the wing nut and the latch to hold the pantry door in place.

Anyone with Army experience remember the engine access cover hold downs in APC's? Looking at the same concept. I just can't find the hardware to do that. So, any good ideas?

I had a similar issue with the cabinet we kept the printer. I ended up installing a heavy duty magnetic cabinet latch that required a pull of 20 lbs or so. Because of the weight of the pantry, you might want to install two.

They were easy to install and hidden.

Quick search on the web I found this one, it has a pull force of 40lbs. "Leisure Products (PM 2001 L 40 lbs) 90 Degree Magnetic Mount Catch"

Not sure if same as in my hurricane. There is an outer door and the slide out pantry is a metal slide. The slide has a latch at the bottom that locks it into place so the slide out does not push open the pantry door.

I had the same issue on my Challenger's pantry door. I installed one of these latch sets on the side of the drawer and haven't had a problem since.

Pantry door opens

We have the same issue on our Chateau's pantry door. My husband is going to install some type of latch or velcro strap. I'll repost once he figures out what will work best.

Easiest solution is what dstankov referenced. Install it and forget the problem!!!

mine already has a similar latch as what dstankov links to. A bit heavier duty one too.
The weight of the thing is just too much for it.

I have a surface bolt, leftover from some long ago project, that I have been intending to install, but still have yet to think of it when I have time....

something similar to this

The latches that Dave reference come in varying degrees of effort needed to open. Mine is a larger 1 - 15 lbs of force needed.

Our pantry came open and punched a hole in our bathroom door. Got it replaced.

We use a door security bar to brace the pantry closed. (Think chair wedged under a door knob).

The 10 pound pull latch I installed has worked fine for more than a year and during 4 trips. I thought about adding a second, as a just in case measure, one shelf down but it hasn't been necessary.

For my top kitchen drawer, which tends to come open now and again, I bought a couple of these child proofing locks when the grandson was born to start making the house a little safer.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...rd_i=166865011

I have not installed one of the latches (above) here because the cabinet extension/cutting board is in the top part of that drawer and I'll have to do a little wood trimming to get the clearance required to install the latch on the bottom or side of the drawer.

Hurricane 27K - pantry door opened during delivery run from IN to MA - punched same hole in linen closet door across the way ... My wife found a *hassock (*furniture - not person) that fits nicely in aisle space while traveling with slide closed- rectangular matching colours... Also gives us more storage for the "stuff" we need while traveling ...!!!
