Generator sounds

On our previous RV (Winnebago Travato) the generator noise was horrible. One of the fixes was to install an attenuator to the exhaust. This attenuator wasn't a muffler but it reduce the sharpness of the exhaust note, so it wasn't so obnoxious. Has anyone ever tried this on a Thor Vegas?

yes

that's it, the test was true, the decibels did not drop, it just mellowed out the sound.

Waste of money. Put your $ towards a Genturi or Dynamat on the inside of the external door.

Alterations to any exhaust system can change back pressures in the engine....as suggested, try to muffle the noise between the output and your ears...not the exhaust system.

not a Vegas, but I have one installed on my rig.
My experience is the same....not a significant reduction in dB, but the sound is less harsh. I'm pretty sure I posted some numbers on it way back when I did it.

Some time later, I was at a Tractor Supply store and spotted a tractor muffler, close to the same size but it was a muffler, not just an open flow-through attenuator. I feel like it would very likely work a whole lot better, & I personally doubt if it would cause enough additional back pressure to matter. I'd give that a try before I'd buy another one of these onan things.

Still, I'm glad I installed it though....not what I was hoping, but it does help a little....

oh...and the Genturi suggestion.... also a very small incremental improvement but it only makes sense to install in some situations

So the removable outside door?
