Headliner speaker mod

I think most would agree the sound system is awful in the E350. Only 2 speakers in the doors, that's it. Engine noise is not an issue but the wind noise is like sitting in the back of jet airplane.

So has anyone mounted speakers in the headliner? I also see it as an opportunity to install nice map lights.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I haven't installed anything yet. But, interested in finding out more. Where in the headliner are you thinking about installing them?

The headline in my RV is a soft material stretched out. There is a hollow space that is large enough for speakers but there is no supporting mechanism. Each speaker would be just back of the visor in the up position. I found rigid molded OEM on ebay but I need to see if it will go back far enough to replace the soft material. Going to go by Ford and look at new models to compare.
If that fails I may try to fabricate something out of wood, then buy the same material to provide a finished look.

Depth might be a problem. Then there is the V-10 growling and the wind noise. I figure 100 watts might be needed. Have you thought about mounting a small sound bar on the overhead.

Thanks for the new idea. I do not think it can fit with the Visors but you now have sparked a new thought of small powerful speaker mounted on the side in the corner above seat belt attachment. Then no need to re-engineer the headliner.

Still will look at a soundbar for maybee on the dash somewhere.
Thanks
