Wall thickness and mounting things
I'm getting ready to mount an extra storage type caddie on the wall just behind and above the driver's side cup holder & button panel to hold, brochures and flyers, receipts, spare change, wallet, and little things you want to be able to reach while driving. I made it out of 1/2" plywood and it's stained to match the rig.
My question is how thick is the wall? Is it hollow? Has anyone else mounted anything to the outside walls (on the inside of course) of your motorhome? If so what did you use? I'm thinking of using a 1 1/4" drywall/hollow door anchor to make sure first that it holds the weight and second so the screws don't come out (like the Thor mounted speakers below!). Any suggestions?

Its very thin. Maybe 1/8 inch? I think foam insulation is behind it?
I added a couple of small mesh pockets to my cockpit area (I love them - looks factory to me). It came with small screws (Maybe 1/3 inch long?) and it worked perfectly for my application.
Not sure about something heavy like yours sounds.
Mine also came with double sided sticky tape all around it - so I used that tape as well.
You might want to use some tape to help support.
I thought about adding something like your talking about. It was long enough to hold its own weight on the floor but be right about the same height as a cup holder would be. If this is what your taking about I would used some double sided tape and two small screws and you should be fine.
Or perhaps you can put some support under it to hold some of the weight??
Let use know how it turns out and what you did.
Below is what I used and a picture of where I installed one of them (Pic was taken before I installed it - lol).

I have become Mr. Comand Strip (3M).
They make a couple of holders for the bath room that hold shampoo and body wash bottles. They also sell strips to hang pictures.
Neat products, no holes and easy to move or remove “on command”.

Yeah, I have used some commands in my RV and house. But I also had a few let go over time. So I limit what I use them for and for only light duty. Perhaps I didnt clean the surface well enough and in my house all the the walls are textured so that dont help.

We use command strips all the time because they are temporary. I use this type of hanger for anything permanent in our coach.

To go with our extra chargers I installed under the cabinets above the couch I installed a couple of envelope/key holders on the walls on either side of the couch:
People put their phones & tablets in the holder and hang the cords on the hooks below.
I used the screws that came with them but dipped the screws in wood glue before screwing them in. They are still there after a few years holding up well.

I've used the same product with good results for my few interior modifications so far...
But over the Winter; I'll be building a storage cabinet for one side of the "Garage". Since we removed one of the jack-knife sofas: we figure to mount it to the same points where the sofa was hooked. It just has to be more than strong enough...

Thanks, Camping World had them on sale locally - cheaper than Amazon. I find my self (on long trips) wanting a bottle of water and sometimes Ice Coffee or Root beer next to me at the same time. So I added these to both side of the cockpit area. Purchased another one for the bedroom but I have not installed yet. Not sure If I need it but I thought my wife might like it.

Depending on surfaces, 3M makes a thin black double stick tape with red backing that will hold anything. It's what they use to stick all the trim and badges on cars today. You can get it at any GM dealer or NAPA. Clean surfaces with alcohol, etc., and make sure you have it level when installing...it doesn't come off. Will not work on porous surfaces though. This would be a good option where you don't know what's behind the wall or if it's too thin for screws.

Yup! We just used that to put the privacy glass back in the door of our rig.
It sticks tougher than a bad nickname!

Never thought of using the 3M badge tape on the inside. Thanks Gritz!

I've use it for years for everything. It helps to warm the two surfaces up just a little with a heat gun. That tape will stick stink to a dried out turd!!

I added a plastic caddie, approx 3" deep by 10" long, for my iPhone, sun glasses and other junk. Mounted it on driver's side, about 2" below the side sliding window. I mounted it with 2 self-drilling 3/4" sheet metal screws. Works fine and no problems.

Always let 3m dual lock cure
Remember to burnish the tape with a lil'chizler for best adhesion and
let cure for 24 hours (as recommended by manufacturer) before loading
the tape

I've used velcro tape, but anything that weighs much pulls the velcro apart. So I've been looking for something more heavy duty. Where should I look for this 3M tape? Thank you!
