Hellwig swaybar on 22 E-350

Installed a Hellwig rear swaybar on Thor Axis. 2022 E350

The brackets that come with their swaybar do not correctly fit on the drivers side. There are metal gas (?) tube lines at the very spot that the mounting bracket is supposed to use for a bolt. A hex head bolt does not fit and a carriage bolt small enough to fit between the tubing slips through because you can not get a washer in between the tubing. Plus the metal tubing has a rubber support piece whose bolt interferes with the bracket location. All in all, the mounting of the Hellwig bracket is very difficult.

We called Hellwig and explained the above. Their solution was to ship us custom end links that completely replace the brackets. This is a much better solution than trying to figure a work around for the bolt hole. PLUS, they sent it free and included 2 day UPS. Called on Wednesday and Friday afternoon the swaybar was mounted.

Hopefully they will begin to include the endlinks with future orders.

That was great customer service and a fast delivery time. I had that sway bar installed on my 2017 Axis which is on the E450 chassis and it handles much better.

Actually, it was because of the outstanding service and willingness to help that I wanted to make this post.

And they had the product in stock!!!!!!!!!

Yes it has made a positive difference.

We live on dirt roads several miles from pavement. Those roads really shake. The Axis is better now.

We believe it was money well spent. And we do have to watch what we spend on.

Do you think the wrong bolts were installed that cause my woes?

Hellwig is an outstanding company to deal with on any complaint or failure.

I had their rear sway bar on my class B, a Transit. The end links failed by pulling through the frame. Hellwig sent me improved end links overnight, a free tee shirt and reimbursed me $500 for frame repair which I didn't require. It was minor.

Very odd…
I DIY installed Helwig front and rear sways on my E450 chassis.
It was plug & play.

Not sure what happened in your case, but sounds like the parts pack was incorrect for your frame.

Here’s a photo of my driver’s side Helwig end link.

GO Bears our factory rear sway end link had washers that would keep the top bolt from pulling through the rubber grommet.

The end links that Hellwig sent to replace their standard bracket had washers that we used. We used our factory bolt through the pre-attached factory nut.

We put a washer on both sides of the rubber grommet and torqued down.

I will send you my factory end link with the grommets and some extra washer. If you want it. send me a message with your mailing address.

Thinking out loud…
- probably the new/slightly modified E350 frame (with new V8) is different from the old E350/450 (V10) frame which Helwig parts supported interchangeably

I believe you are correct.

If anyone is going to mount the sway on a 22 E350, I would recommend the Hellwig end links. Unbolt the factory end links, bolt on the new and be done.

This is what Hellwig sent

Thanks, I did not install the sway bars and am working with the place that sold me this to make it right. They have been OK, but not great by any stretch of the imagination. The parts came on Monday. I was told the bolts were at the place they found to fix this.

I crawed my old fat ass under the AXIS and installed some bolts and fat washers to hold the sway up for the hour ride to the place they found to install it. Will that cause damage to the frame?
