Finally the end of the race season, so got my buddy's son over here to do the welding. I snagged a nice E-series spare tire winch off ebay last year for about $40 bucks shipped. For installation our WS31 has a 1 1/2 x1 1/2" square bar between the rear frame rails. That was wide enough to weld one side of the winch on. He then cut a about a 3" x 6" piece of 5/16ths steel to weld on to the existing square tube and the other leg of the winch. Ahead of his arrival I cut a couple 6" 2x4's for pads/spacers for the tire to pull up against. I drilled the square tube and bolted them in place. I positioned the winch to the back side of the square tube so the tire would pull up tight against another angle iron cross bar. So, the tire has three points of contact when pulled up tight. And, there is just enough space for the long crank handle to be inserted from the rear of the coach along side the trailer hitch. A sprayed on a couple-three coats of Rustoleum black for for protection. Finally, more space in the rear cargo bay!
