The DW loves sales and buys first then tries to figure out where to put everything at home. Such was the case a week ago with six half gallons of ice cream. Home freezers (yes plural) are full so she says could I fire up the fridge in the Chateau. Sure I say. Still working great since the burner maintenance last year. Measured temp at 2-3 degrees in the freezer. Check.
Then came the 6" of snow and cold weather a few days ago. Just thought maybe I should check in on the beast just to make sure all was well. The ice cream was soft and temp was 30 degrees in the freezer. How could this be?
Yes this is yet another lesson learned about the RV fridge. A quick search filled me in on the condition I experienced. So the Norcold Cold Weather kit is on order and I write this for newbies to check for the optional cold weather option on some Norcold models if used below freezing. Counter intuitive that cold weather might cause a refrigerator to quit but science explained the coolant turns to gel and won't flow properly.
