I'm pretty sure this will help if you get stuck off pavement.

It'd be awful to have them when needed.

Neat idea... but I'd rather not put myself in the position of needing them.

You're right, and I do my best to not be there, then...
But
Mine isn't 6wd so we can go out in the desert, it's 6wd because I'm afraid of festival parking and soft shoulders and snow and ice and mud.

THIS is what scares me. My axis front clip vs a tow truck driver.

Except you have a front hitch now for easy extraction.

The Front hitch is last resort for me because of the 6wd. It does erase the tow truck/helpful site neighbor with a 1/2t dodge worry about my front clip though.
The front hitch is $109 on Etrailer and I think it's as good of an idea as carrying a spare tire for anyone without 6wd. My last resort would be your 2wd first resort.

These traction thingies will ride just as well in my little Blazer or the f150 and they fit under any stuck car. They rescued a Pacifica last week.

I use my equipment for other folks about 30 times more than I do for me.

Yesterday I ordered these soft hooks. I'll can't imagine a scenario where I'll need them...but someone else might need them so I can winch them out of their whatever in the hell they managed to get in to situation.
