Install of Progressive Dynamics 4655 converter.
This weekend was warm (50's) so in was able to install my Progessive Dynamics 4655 converter in my 2017 Axis.
All went well but you better figure 3 hours for the install. Plus if you have an INVERTER either check to see if another model # will accept this Extra 12 v postive wire or purchase a 3 way distribution block like I did.
I did notice a few things:
A). The new converters (PD) 12 V positive and negative wires are about 10 gauge and the old ones were about 6 gauge wires. But I think they had many more strains of copper wire so perhaps not much performance loss?
B). The PD has TWO cooling fans and a much larger heat sink.
C). The PD cooling fans are Variable speed vs. the OEM's High speed only.
D). The PD fans dont come on as much (one once for a short time on my driveway but my batteries were already at like 80% or more so not a good test) and are much quieter than the OEM.
E). The PD is a tight fit and I could not use the little adapter plate to bolt down like OEM (I even tried to install backwards to see how it fits).
F). The PD DC circuit board has 12 fuse locations (OEM 11) so I have one extra which is nice. Perhaps a larger RV's have 12 DC fuses?
G). The PD instuctions dont mention notching out the plastic on the fuse panel cover so you can see the green status LED light and be able to push the button to manually change the charging modes (easy fix, use a dill bit then file to shape).
All in all im very happy. It gives me peace of mind knowing my batteries are not being over charged and I hopefully wont hear that loud cooling fan anymore like the OEM (That was very annoying to me).
I haven't really tested it yet....It might be spring before I can give you all good review.
