Adding wasp guard screen to furnace and water heater air inlets

Another Covid-19 project: I installed 1/8" galvanized "hardware metal cloth" on our Thor Aria furnace air inlet and the water heater air inlet (shown directly above the furnace air inlet) (pic 1 but rotate 90 deg CW) to keep wasp nests out. The furnace panel had 2 metal pieces pop-riveted to hold the original 3/4" grid plastic guard in place. I drilled out the rivets and put the 1/8" screen in front of the original plastic guard (pic 2). However, I decided to add 2 more metal corner braces since the original setup just had the 2 corner pieces holding the plastic guard in place leaving the other 2 corners of the plastic guard with too much give (pic 3).

Good suggestion Saddlesore: Our Thor Aria has a residential refrigerator (electric, so no vents), but I did add the screen to the propane Norcold fridge in our former Bounder MH. I also purchased a stainless steel screen to cover the furnace burner opening on the Thor Aria.

I use cheap dog flea collars in fridge vent, furnace and water heater. Replace each spring. seems to work.
