Interior Cabinet Repair

We have an issue I have not found anyone else having or solutions for . A mobile service person working on our refrigerator had to remove the cabinet molding strip for the refrigerator. So now we need to replace that molding. So far Thor has not given me any response and our Motor Home sealer has not responded either to requests for replacement part that can be ordered?

I am looking for an exact color match stain as I have been told most of the interior cabinets are veneer but that the doors are stained wood. So far we have failed to find a match. Sorry about the picture going over sideways but it shows the piece we need to replace with the veneer molding if available or by staining a piece of wood to match with correct stain.

Can you take that picture to a Hardware store like Lowe's, or Home Depot? The folks that are there could probably set you up with a match.

So what happened to the original strip? Put it back on.

Since the original strip wasn't mentioned: I'm guessing that it was damaged during the removal process.

Or the mobile service person took it with them when they left.

If you can remove a piece of cabinetry I would take a sample to your nearest cabinet shop and have them match it. I needed a new panel for our RV, found a local cabinet shop and they matched it up perfect.

Take a cabinet door off and go to HD or Lowe's.

Interior Cabinet Repair

Thank you all for your responses. I have already tried everything that was suggested. I even tried asking Lowes if they could do a paint match to the veneer color but was told not an exact match so did not wish to waste their time or my money hunting for a good match.

The piece was broken when removed. We had a refrigerator water leak so it needed to be removed. In the process the repair person thought he could easily safely remove the molding strip of frame work around the refrigerator cabinet space thinking it was glued or nailed on. We found out Thor screws the molding in from the rear so while prying it off it did break.

I had first tried contacting Dawn Thompson, Thor MotorCoach Parts Specialist but she has not responded to my email. I also tired emailing the parts department of Motor Home Specialists in Texas were we bought our Motor Home but they too have failed to respond so I came here hoping someone had a similar experience and answer for me.

The problem is the veneer used and finding out if Thor has it available to order replacement parts

The other problem is trying to find the exact color match if we use real wood to replace that veneer molding piece. All Home Depot and Lowes have been able to suggest is using the color charts from the various stain makers. So we have an assortment of colors from our carpenter guy and so far not finding a good color match.

Thor's method of building the interior cabinets makes it difficult for service work on the Refrigerator and Washer and Dryer as it seems everything is screwed on from the inside as you will find out if you ever have to do the service work.

So still looking for the answer to our problem and I have to feel it is finding the veneer parts Thor uses in the building of their Motor Homes.

Have you contacted the company that did the repair and failed to fully complete the job? Kind of seems like it would be their responsibility to complete the job you've already paid for.

When dealing with RV parts never email, ALWAYS call and speak to a live person. Not sure why but no one EVER responds to emails. After calling I usually get the parts I’ve requested fairly quickly, even from Thor!

Just trying to think outside the box. How about replacing all of the trim around the refrigerator frame with unfinished molding from a box store, and then painting it black like the handles on your refrigerator?

You could try just getting a piece of maple from Lowes or Home Depot cutting it to fit and then staining it to match? You may need a table saw or know someone that does.

That's not who made the molding. Thor cabinet shop made it...and stained it. There's no reason in the world Thor shouldn't be able to help with this. They advertise the interior colors each year. They know exactly what Pops needs....if they cared enough to care.

While I agree with "The Gritz": it might be time to investigate an acceptable contrasting color...

Although my issue was an exterior moulding that I needed to replace, I also tried to contact Thor and received no response. I also tried the Camping World dealership closest to me, with no response. I then contacted the Camping World dealership in Albuquerque, NM. I spoke with the Parts Manager, a Mr. Cornelius. He was knowledgeable about what I needed and accommodated me with the exact part required. He shipped it post haste. So, I suggest to you to give them a call in Albuquerque and speak to that gentleman. If anyone can get that piece for your Thor, he can.

Recommend you find a furniture refinisher in your area. One worth their salt will be able to zero in on color. Contact local paint store or unfinished furniture store for reference.

Here you will find colors of powdered satin. You may mix colors of the powdered stain to your desire. They are alcohol soluble. You may also use 1/4# cut shellac mixture. Any clear coat of your choice will be compatible. There may be other sources as well. Google powdered wood stain.
