I (we) do fish. Pretty much, anymore, only when we go up to the Sierras. I love the rivers and streams. Very peaceful. Pam is maybe more of an avid fisherman than I. She came in the room the other day when we'd been talking about our next trip, "We're going fishing, aren't we?"

Gotta love it!

(The pic is from our site near Julian. Just thought I'd share. I think Dino photoshopped our rig into his picture! )

I have a mod for it I am going to try when I get to cooler weather. if you want to try sumo springs beware
you can buy the individual parts from sumo direct, so you could make the one you have work...what exact was the problem on the install???

Dino,

Looking good! What is the difference between the two boosters you have towards the rear? Also, tell us about the automatic antenna...

Cheers!

The booster attached to the ladder is a cell phone signal booster...the booster with the 3 antennas is the wifi booster...The automatic antenna for OTA TV signals finds those signal automatically with the press of a button instead of you twisting a knob in the ceiling. Hope that answers your questions!!

Dino,

Very cool. Have you noticed a marked increase in the 3 different signals? Gotta say, I think I like the idea of the auto TV antenna the most. I never know which way to turn the dang thing!...and then I have to do another scan on the TV's setup!
Great ideas.

Battery thoughts...

Okay everyone,
We're getting ready to dry-camp up in the Sierras in a couple weeks. After everything I've read regarding the OEM Harris batteries Thor provides, it sounds as though I'm on the lucky side to have gotten more than a year out of them.

I'm considering replacing them with the Duracell AGM deep cycle batteries that Sam's Club sells ($119 for 12v). I know that these don't hold a candle to the Trojan or Lifeline batteries -- but they're also less than half the cost. My thinking is that if I maintain them properly when we're not traveling, I should be able to get at least 3 years out of them, if not more.

I have a portable 100w solar setup that I plan on using to hopefully keep things topped off for the 8 days that we're out.

Any input from y'all would be very much appreciated. I hope everyone stays as cool as possible the next few weeks --

Kent

Most definitely a stand back and watch moment. It isn't a situation where he'd hurt himself, but I'd stay back far enough to avoid the straps flying when he broke one.

Reminds me somewhat of the first time we took our toad with us behind our new motorhome. First night's stop, everything went fine, then we stopped at an RV park near my wife's hometown and spent a few days visiting her family. When we got ready to depart, I unhooked everything, loaded the toad on the dolly, and took off. It seemed like I had to give it more gas than usual, and, all of a sudden I thought, "Did I remember to release the emergency brake in the car?" Fortunately, it was a grass parking spot and I wasn't digging up gravel or burning rubber on the pavement. I stopped and as I was getting out of the MH two guys were running down the road yelling, "We think your emergency brake is on!" I told them, "Thanks, but I just figured that out," and sheepishly walked back, unlocked the door, and released the brake. I have towed our Sorento about 15,000 miles since then without repeating that little incident, but I know it could happen again. If it does, I'll just claim I'm a newbie. That covers all mistakes.

That is better than leaving a rear drive manual trans in reverse or 1st. I left the Rampside in first once but only moved it 10 ft before I felt something traging. I had left the parking brake on. I was surprised to find the parking brake was off. Checking further, I found I had left it in first gear. At 5 mph per 1,000 rpm, the the engine would probably made it to 35 mph before....
