Hurricane/Windsport

Just a quick question for the Hurricane/Windsport owners. Do you find the 15,000 BTU is enough to cool down the coach in the hotter climates. I see they have the option of a second A/C. I have a Vegas now and in the process of buying a Windsport 31S.

Thanks,
Kev

Kev, I like the two air conditioners at night I use the front ac for less noise sleeping, during the day the front is what I use as the bedroom doesn't need so much. If its real hot I set them to alternate service. If watching TV inside I use the back ac for less noise in the front. hope this helps you some

Thanks for the response. I am looking at one with the upgraded 15,000 BTU.
I guess I was wondering if the one A/C is enough to cool the coach in the hot Florida weather.

Thanks,
Kevin

For the extra length of the Hurricane - and mentioning Florida summers - I would recommend the 2nd AC unit... One has done well for most use - but a very hot day (which FL will see a lot of) - it would be a struggle for one unit). That also upgrades the RV to '50A' service.

One 15,000 btu A/C works ok in FL if you are parked under a tree with 95 F ambient. If we are in full sun parked (Moab, UT) we pulled the big slide in and kept a 22 degree temp difference during the day. If we are traveling and it is really hot we start the genset about an hour before stopping for the night to cool down the rear of the coach. Not having to sling that 50 amp cord around is worth being warm for a couple evenings a year.

Thanks for the response. The problem I am having is that is seems most dealers get them in with one A/C unit. General RV, who has given me by far the best price, has several coming in over the next couple of months but they all have one a/c with the upgraded 15,000 unit. I can't even imagine not at least upgrading from the 13,500. I just don't want to be uncomfortable in a new RV over the summer.

I agree with the 2nd AC unit. Keep in mind, though, that they will both be the 13500 BTU AC's - at least that's how it is configured on my 50 amp Hurricane 35M.

Get the second a/c. Wish I had it. Like the old saying goes: better to have and not need it than need it and not having it.

With that said it gets hot in So Cal. My air had a hard time keeping up when going in and out of the mh. If you look at one of the first pages in this thread we bought a portable fan from Costco. It really help move the cold air throughout the couch. We have several trips planned this year. If I find the a/c cant keep the coach cold I'll be adding a second a/c to the bedroom. I will still keep the 30amp for the coach. The new a/c will be powered by its own 20amp cable that will get plugged into the cg pedestal. That's of course if they have an extra 20amp receptacle.

I have the install all planned out. Just waiting to see if I need it or not.

Looks like you place the new outlet between the backsplash and the kitchen window. Did you splice the outlet under the overhead cabinet?

Dino in the cabinet above the sink next to the microwave there was a single outlet that the microwave was plugged into. Changed that out to a duplex used a pigtail attached to new outlet as supply ran between microwave and cabinet thru same hole as microwave plug and plugged in. I'll get a pic later when I go outside this way they are on 2 separate circuits

Dino here are 2 more pics hopefully this helps to understand what I did. the reason I ran it off of microwave outlet as I said before 2 different circuits this way we can use toaster oven and make coffee at same time as long as we don't go over total 30 amps. Before if I had toaster oven and coffee pot in same outlet as same time it would pop breaker

Been busy today! These are before and after photos of my accumulator tank install. Got the tank from Amazon, 1/2 inch tubing and fittings from Lowes. Had to move the pump so everything would fit, luckily the Thor fittings would swivel just enough to make connections easier.

Dino, when we meet up I'd like to look at your battery filler, took me over 30 min to get batteries filled. I said a lot of bad words trying to fill the back battery!

There are two benefits here. The accumulator tank has an air bladder that smooths out water pulsation when using the pump, especially when a faucet is only partially open. The vinyl tubing of course connects everything but it also dampens sound vibrations to make the pump quieter. The blue rigid plastic tubing Thor uses transmits sound really well, the vinyl doesn't.

Jerry, Thank you for starting such a great thread for Hurricanes and Windsports, easy to look back for things to improve the coach!!!
