Paul, here is a pic of pistons I used to hold the bed up. I used a 1/2 inch ply to replace front part of existing boards. I used Hatchlift Products RV Bedlift Kit - Queen – Standard Mattress by Hatchlift Products. Bought the King size first but it wouldn't close. The queen opens nice but have to pull down to close.

An FYI about those bedlift kits:
They work DANDY in brick and stick homes also.
The storage available under the guest bedroom bed is astonishing.
A one hand lift and there's all the linens and extra pillows and winter coats.

Just a hint.
We researched heavily and then decided to sell the winter house and consolidate.
So we don't own any, but damn it's a good idea.

Looks very good. Is that an insulating shade?

Hi all:

I just installed an electric fireplace insert into the rig, and I want to trim it out with the same wood that is in the rest of the RV. Does anyone here know which company produces the cabinets for Thor Motorcoach Industries? I sent an email to Thor over a week ago and have heard no reply, so I am asking you all to see what we know all together. I have found that, on this forum, we are a pretty smart group of folks.

Thor MC builds all cabinets and drawers in house; only the cabinet doors and drawer fronts are purchased for the for the factories.

So I guess that means I will need to use one of the doors I removed in order to match the color and finish. I was hoping to buy some of the matching wood to use as trim around the fireplace itself. This could be tricky.

Thor MC has an excellent video in YouTube on factory construction. It gives you an idea of how complicated. it is to build 12 to 15 coaches a day at plant 750.

Air bags on a windsport

I had purchased air lift front & rear when they had 25% off at Christmas. Just now nice enough in Indiana to install. I was hoping for similar results to the sumo springs but with adjustable firmness. Fronts were cake to install. Rears, not so much. Late model you have to drill all 8 holes in the frame. Duals have to come off on both sides (not at same time). I also purchased and installed the wireless one dual path so that I can alter psi front/rear while traveling.
20 mile test run this evening...pulling out of driveway onto county blacktop, my DW said wow that was better. Does it ride like my Yukon or wife's wrangler unlimited, NO. Does it ride like an old cj7, pretty much. No more rattle from dishes when you hit expansion joints. When you hit a place where the asphalt was repaired it is noticeable but not unpleasant. I set front at 25 and rear at 35. I am extremely pleased! It went from a school bus to a conversion van.
Now I will have to insulate the engine cover because the engine just got louder when the coach got quieter, lol.
If anyone is on the fence, you will be pleased![ATTACH]Click image for larger version

Is the RV frame hardened steel? Did you have difficulty drilling the steel with a HSS bit?. What size hole did you drill? Pilot hole first? What is the diameter of the bolts that are used to secure the lower air bag base to the springs? Are they grade 8?

Frame isn't hardened. Pilot hole with cutting oil on both bits. Holes are 1/2". Grade 5 bolts with nylock nuts.
Drilling holes was not nearly as bad as wallowing the duals around, lol

My bad, the upper mounts are 1/2". The lower mounts are 3/8 and definitely not grade 8. They just keep the mount from sliding out of position. The mount cradles the spring and the bag pushes down. Not much strain on the lower capscrews at all.

Ifish... what brand airbags and do you have the part numbers for front and rear? I am intrigued. I had airbags on the rear of my class c and it really stopped the wobble the rear had, or what ever you call when a truck passes. My wife called it the wobble and then sang the song…

It looks like I am just going to have to buy a 4X8 sheet of the material Thor uses for some of the veneer finish work and cut it to fit the spot. Does anyone know where I can get this?

Instead of trying to find matching wood to trim it up why don’t you think about finding a complimentary material to finish it out. Like a tile or faux stone?
