Dangerous Sloppy Wiring

A while back Dave (SuperD) posted a problem with faulty wiring to the water heater which almost caused a fire. I have subsequently read other posts with similar problems. I started checking all my coach wiring and sure enough, two of the wire nuts to the water heater were incorrectly fastened and the wires just fell out when I moved them. I just cannot understand why THOR continues to do this kind of sloppy work (my coach is 2018). They must be aware of the problem due to the numerous reports and the liability to them is enormous. Very dangerous and someday WILL start a fire and someone may get hurt. Not going anywhere until I check every available electrical splice, particularly on the 110 side.

Thank you so much Dave, and everyone who alerted us, this could have ended badly.

My coach was built in December 2014 and it had the same problem ... been going on for a long time. The water heater is installed under the kitchen sink and not easy to access. You would think by now they’d figure out that the issue could be eliminated by putting a pigtail on the water heater before installing it and moving the connecting point to a box in a more convenient location.

How much has Thor spent fixing this problem under warranty over and over?

Thanks Dino & HTTR. It's good to see a Redskin fan in Texas!

I can now move the Progressive Industries EMS HW50C to the completed column.

Rear Trac bar is due in mid-next week...I can't wait to get that one done.

We'll be starting our first long RV trip in a few weeks & I want to take my time & enjoy life.

I'll be taking Interstates & Towing. I want all the help I can get to keep from getting pushed when the Big Trucks come flying by me.

Assembly was easy and the unit was no problem to get into the RV. I did it all by myself. It came in three boxes via FEDEX and only took 4 days from order to delivery.

Disassembly of the couch was more of a challenge but doable. See pictures attached for it's new location once I reassembled it.

Thanks again Jerry! LOL

A question for everyone (especially Jerry) that has installed this RecPro 67 in their 29M. How much room is there between your feet and the dinette when you are relcined? Do you have to un-recline every time someone wants to get by? I'm 6' and not able to determine how far out into that space I will protrude.

Thank you.

Once we got to the cg i switched them around now they are nice and even.

Halfprice, how did you remove the arms? The passenger seat arms on our ACE are not level when pulled down, they sag towards the seat. They may need reversed as well. Thanks

Steamboat - check Post #963, it has some pics also, but here is the jist of it:

"So I did some research and found out the arm rest are removable. To do this all you have to do is raise the armrest up, push in where the armrest rotates, then continue to rotate the arm until it faces the opposite way. Then pull it off. To reinstall, put it back on the same way it came out. No need to push on it. It will realign itself."

I've been keeping the RV at my house & have it plugged into our house to keep the batteries charged.

We get a lot of snow, ice, rain, etc. and I'm always worried about the cord & connections getting wet.

I had an extra storage bin in the garage, so I "customized" it with a hacksaw to make sure the electrical connections stay out of harms way.

I put a block in the bottom to keep the wind from moving it around and my lid snaps on securely.

Once I have everything connected, I slide it under the back of the RV to help keep it out of the elements even more.

So far, it's been working out very well for me.

Level First?

Hello everyone, I have a question. I always have leveled my motorhome (Windsport 29m) then extended the full wall slide. Yesterday I went to the dealer to pick up my motorhome from some warranty work and when I arrived I noticed that they had my slide out without the levelers deployed. I asked the tech about it and he said that it didn't matter to put the levelers down first. Well now I have a stress crack in my windshield on the passenger side, not from a stone chip. Do you put your levelers down first? With not having the levelers down would this cause a stress crack in the windshield? Any thoughts?

ty, Chris

Jacks should be down first to stabilize the frame, tech is FOS and doesn’t know what he is talking about!!!

If you put sliding out on uneven ground, yes this could cause a stress crack in the windshield. Has happened to many others!

Just want to thank everyone for contributing ideas, asking questions, etc. as it has all helped me get our RV updated for our liking.

We're leaving next weekend for our first extended trip, just under 2 weeks long.
To date, we've had a grand total of 3 nights sleeping in our Windsport.
We're excited & really looking forward to the new adventure
(just me, DW & our furry family member)

We'll be flat towing our Jeep Wrangler (2 door, manual) for the first time too.

All storage bays have been organized/optimized.
I washed our baby (mostly by hand) to get those darn black streaks off.

Mods Completed this week:
Inside Step Cover - used 3/4" Lauan plywood from Lowe's ($28)
I added some carpet to hide the wood edges from bare toes during the night. (see pics below)
Battery Qwik Fill (Flow Rite MP200 & RV pump 2020)
this was super easy & cost me about $70 for peace of mind

Rear Trac bar (Brazel's, Ultra Trac) - Really happy this is now done!
- I built some ramps using 2x10 lumber. I went 3 boards high. Was able to use my creeper OK, but think I will add a 4th board for the future.

I ran into the same problem someone else had recently...the holes for the passenger sway bar spacer were off just a tad. After messing with it for too long, I finally just bored the holes out a little & got it going.

A couple of recent purchases to make life on the road a little cozier...
Fold-away side table $6 (I bought 2 now..gonna use them inside & out)
6.5' x 6.5' canopy - $30 at Ollie's
Coleman Road Trip LXE - $130 at BJ's
we debated on which grill to choose for months.
some of our close friends have this & love it, so when it went on sale,
we bought it.

we'll use the 1 lb bottles for awhile, but I want to do the upgrade to use the on board propane at some point.
