Dino, I tow my 2016 Kia Sorento behind my ACE 30.3 (until tomorrow when I trade it for a Coachmen Mirada 35LS) with a Master Tow 80THD. It has hydraulic surge brakes. The maximum gross weight for the towed vehicle is 4,900 lbs. I now have about 9000 miles with it and, once you get it moving, never notice the car being back there. Of course, as with any tow dolly, you have to be aware of your surroundings and make sure you don't get into any places that would require you to back up (not a good thing with a tow dolly, it tends to damage things).

We tow our cars with the Acme EZE-Tow dolly with the hydraulic surge brakes. So far no issues with either a 2014 Escape or a 2016 C-Max.

Dino, Master Tow or Acme with surge brakes, both are good, easy to use. I used a Master Tow for several years with absolutely no problems. Electric brake models are a PIA, plus you will need to have a brake controller installed. Check Craigs List, there are usually some used ones for sale. Check prices for new and compare against used so you don’t end up paying new price for a used dolly.

We have a 2017 29M Hurricane. Would some post a pic of what it is suppose to look like ? The shock seems to be ok but it would be helpful to see a picture of the whole thing. Thanks so much.
This thread has been so helpful. We did the air condition vent and it came perfect.
Heres a couple pics. Are you sure the bracket came off. Or did the shock just come off the pin

An alternate idea...

Dino,

It's been ages since I've been on here -- a long story with some caregiving that my wife and I are going through with one of our sons. But when I read what has happened with Stormy, my heart sunk.

I know that you're considering a dolly, but I thought I'd throw this out there...and I realize you may have already considered this --
You have a lot already invested in beautiful tow equipment. You know the distinct advantages of flat towing versus dealing with a dolly. Once the tranny is repaired, why not sell the Escape and get something like an Edge, or Equinox, or CRV? Doesn't have to be new (especially in the case of the CRV) But there are quite a few vehicles out there that others enjoy for flat towing. (It would be all kicks and giggles if you found out from Blue Ox that your current baseplate could be used on some other model! That would be too perfect...)

Just remember to do research above and beyond what the annual dinghy towing guides say. We definitely found some addendums regarding our 2016 Equinox, and we read a ton of input from folks online.

Whatever you choose, it will be good having you back on the road and sharing your experiences with all of us!

Cheers!
PapaMo

Dino - Just another possibility that I heard recently.

I camped with a guy that flat towed a mini van. He installed a lube pump to keep the fluid moving in the tranny & has some type of display in the RV to keep an eye on things going on with the Toad as he's moving.

Not sure of all you're exact Escape specs or if this would work for you, but this could be a cheaper option to consider.

Just got my insurance renewal from Progressive. It went from $675 to $1225. Needless to say ill be shopping for new insurance.

I dont know how tgey can justify almost a n 100% raise. No tickets, accidents, or claims.

Im sure they will blame increase on Ca

At least i have 1-1/2 months to find somethibg else

You are correct PapaMo..."Windy" is our MH and "Stormy" is our tow vehicle!
