How to add house light switch
The house light switch is right as you enter the door with two switches to turn the house light and the running lights off/on. This is fine if you are coming into the rv but what if you are already in there and want to turn the house lights off/on. Can I piggyback off the existing switch and wire another switch to another location in the rv?
Jeff
P.S. I'm not a electrician...

There are $12 key chain type remote controls that wire to your existing wiriing.
Somehwre in my ongoing thread there's examples of three or four types, or just go to Amazon.
Very very easy and no holes for the new switch when you use a remote instead.

Where did you get the screen material, and how are they attached? I like that setup.

I had purchased the screens that attached with springs to the outside, didn’t like them. I was looking thru posts one day and came across the idea from another member. I used heavy duty tin snips to cut up the screens I already had, take your time doing this and wear gloves, the ends of the screen wire are very sharp. I used stainless steel safety wire to hold everything in place. (The safety wire is the kind used to secure nuts and bolts. Took one afternoon to do everything.

I have the 2017 Windsport 29M and if memory serves, that was the last year the porch light was OEM on that model. Installation was simple, I just replaced the OEM light with this model. If you have the Windsport/Hurricane models that come without a porch light I would recommend a solar powered LED porch light unless you want to drill a hole in your side-wall, then find a 12V power source.

My Hurricane didn’t come with a porch light. How do you know where to install it? I see that it comes with 4 screws, is that what you used? Just a little nervous to drill screws into my rig. Thanks.

I think the guys with porch lights are showing an optional non-OEM light with a motion sensor on it… but you need to have a light there from the factory. I think Jerry posted one from Amazon that you could put on with a Velcro or double stick tape that was solar powered so no holes need to be drilled. I’ll most likely go with something like Jerry posted… Too many other projects to do before I figure out how to drill a hole and run wires… Even to make the assist entry handle light up.

Since you did not have an OEM porch light, I would go with an after market light that you can either velcro or 3m tape it down. Solar powered/recharge would be nice too, that way you don't have to drill any more holes in your rig than you have to!

Here is a picture of the After Market Motion Detecting outside light I used. I installed it with the double sided tape that came with it. It lasted 5 years. I removed it with Dental Floss (See Thread "Another Use for Dental Floss").

I’d like to do this as well, but I think I read somewhere (maybe even in this forum) that putting screens over the exhaust vents wasn’t a good idea.
What could “go wrong” when you put screens in like this?

Also - wouldn’t the large screen holes allow wasps etc... to get in?
Sorry about all the questions!

The screen “COULD” cause some back pressure on the exhaust, but it doesn’t. We lived in our MH for three months in northern Indiana while waiting for our new house to be finished, Sept thru Nov, it was cold and we ran the heater pretty much full time, never a problem. The screen is not restrictive enough to cause a problem.
The holes on the screens are small enough to keep out wasps and mud daubbers out, they wont get in.

A little bit of thought regarding the screens:
The exhaust is not under pressure. It is basically free flow.
The screens are sold everywhere you would find rv doodads.
The black print on a full text page of paper takes up 5% of the total surface.
There are people who open their rv doors and windows when activating their slide so as to not create a vacuum or pressure which could cause the motors to overwork.
Just some 'things that make you go hmmmm'.

We have a 31Z and there is a switch to the left of the door stairwell for the kitchen/living room lights and another under the cabinet above the sink wired like a 3 way switch in your house. We like it because keeping the lights on until you are ready to exit means the stairwell is lit as you go out the door. Coming in hit the stairwell switch and the house lights come on. Ready for bed use the switch under the cabinet instead of standing on your head to reach the stairwell switch.

We have a 31Z and do the same thing. I did put a stick up light so when we enter I turn that on so I can find the switch. We are at the Tampa show now and found a great solution for the porch light that is non existent on my MH.
