I semi retired a couple years ago so now all I do is drive a truck hauling live turkeys. I spend about 40 minutes out of every hour waiting to get unloaded, so I have lots of time to read. Before I was a medium/heavy duty mechanic for 31 years and still have that thirst for knowledge. I know that it is me that is gonna have to repair any issues that arise with this Windsport so the more that I know the easier the diagnose will be

Hey guys a new mod for me almost done. I've done so many things it's hard to find something to do
At the So Cal Rally Gary gnach gave me a couple suggestions for making and installing a screen guard for the front engine hood. Its wide open there and I always worry about a rock flying in and hitting the radiator.
I finally went to home depot and bought a piece of metal lathe and angle iron. Took some measurements, attached it to the angle iron and to my surprise it fit.
As you can see the radiator is wide open
I'm painting it now so I'll post some pics after it gets Installed tomorrow
Jerry

It's on my mind every day.
I forget to do this mod... Every day.
I told Echo to remind me for tomorrow.
I think I'll use 1/4" hardware screen(just because I already have it.)

I'll most likely install soon. The paint in fairly dry and the electric company is killing power tomorrow for some repair work. So tomorrow will be a movie day or Disneyland
Hers some pics of where it will be installed. Attached directly onto the hood
Bottom hood bolt. And up top the hole was already in the bracket

Had to redo it. Realized I mounted the left bottom bolt in the wrong hole. Now it's nice and straight

Great work Jerry!!!
When I first got our Windsport it made a whistling noise at about 50 mph. Figured out the engine hood was out of alignment, got it aligned and no more whistle. I read that several other owners had the same problem, had called Thor, and received a roll of expanded mesh aluminum, figured what the heck and called. Received a roll of the mesh which was powder coated black, removed the bolts holding the plastic grill in place, mounted the mesh in front and bolted everything back in place. The mesh was small enough that I haven’t had to worry about rocks since then. I’ve had to repair several large rock chips in the front but nothing has gotten thru the mesh thankfully!

I never realized there was that big of a difference between the 2017 Windsport and Hurricane grills. My Windsport has the black grill with small openings. That stock Hurricane grill opening looks large enough to allow a small bird to get in there.
Super nice work Jerry!!
