Keyless locks?
Has anyone replaced the coach door lock with a keyless electronic? I am curious as to how easy the installation was and whether any cutting/filing of the door was necessary. Also recommendations. I'd like one of these to avoid possible lockout. Thanks --

I checked into them on my prior class c. The coach locks at the time were running about 250.00 to 300.00.
Instead I went to Ford and got the keyless module for the cab for 86.00 and installed it myself. Installation took about 15 minutes, no drilling and the setting of the code took a minute.

That is a great idea. Unfortunately I have the Mercedes Sprinter chassis and am betting it isn't as easy with that model. They don't make anything easy for a do-it-yourself approach. But I love the idea and will check into that. Thanks, dstankov! I have the key fob keyless entry option but would love pushbutton in case I lock the keys/fob in. I can't find that there is such a thing available for the MB.

Enlighten me, oh wise one!
How does the keyless module for the cab work for entry into the coach? What is the Ford part number?

On my prior class C. Open the cab door and climb into the coach. Won't work for a class A.

Here is the link to Ford Accessories. Again, I used this on a Class C built on the E450 chassis.

I replaced one of the keyed cam-locks on a storage compartment with a combo cam-lock version. Then I keep a spare set of keys inside the compartment.
That way, if I lock myself out, I simply have to open the compartment with the combination lock. Of course, this assumes "someone" put the keys back into the compartment from the last time.
One issue with the combination cam locks is they are not very weatherproof. But I did find a cover boot for them that helps... along with regular lubrication with dry lock lubricant.

OK, it's time to start a Kickstarter campaign to crowdsource funding to make a state of the art keyless entry retrofit for motorhomes.
There is demand, and only one small company making such a device.

Actually, the Mobile Outfitters unit is only for trailers, not motorhomes. The only company that currently manufactures a retrofit keyless lock for motorhomes is Bauer Products.

You bet. And the price is rather high. Or maybe the manufacturers should just do the right thing and include up to date technology... Naw, I'm not holding my breath on that one.
I like the idea of keys in the cargo compartment, though. Good option. I had not seen keypad locks for a storage compartment.
