Stairwell cover
My DW has been on me to make something to cover the stairwell area when we leave our 13 year old Schnauzer inside when we are gone and at night. We have been putting a beanbag chair in there but it's a pain. I got to work and made this. I put a piano hinge in the middle so it folds in half and doesn't take up much space when not needed. It is strong enough to stand on. I plan to route the edges round and probably stain and varnish.

That is one of the first things Ron did.
We bought self adheasive tile squares at H.D.
and store under one of our beds when not in use.

I went with a simple single cut of 5/8" X 35" X 22" marine grade plywood (had from earlier home project), painted it with black textured paint and store it in our 24.1 next to the table mount provided behind the couch - Recliners for us .
The approximately 6 sq ft of added space comes in handy at night time and during travel as we put on of the dog's cushions there and it is out of the road.

Haven't made on for the current coach, yet. When I made one for the class c I added some round self stick felt furniture pads to the bottom side to compensate for the rubber molding/trim around the stair well. After cutting the plywood and putting it in place I noticed that stepping on the end caused the rubber trim to act as a makeshift fulcrum. Putting the furniture pads around the three sides eliminated that problem. I also drilled a 1 inch finger hole on the end to make installation and removal easier.
As a note, the furniture pads also eliminated the possibility of scratching the vinyl flooring if the platform moved.

all I can say is.... each of you, including Ron, had a great idea of making use of, and making safe, the step well of our rv's !!
Dave..thanks for the input, re furniture pads...we have extras for our bar stools which might be put to use.
and...I am soooo happy to NOT have electronic steps anymore !!

a simple fix does not require any skill .. seriously..
measure the size of step area and add about an inch for overhang...take your measurements to a lumber yard and have them cut the piece of wood and sand it for you, if you cannot do that yourself. Purchase sticky backed, vinyl floor tiles that, pretty much, match your floor in the motorhome..and go to work...a pair of heavy duty scissors will cut the tiles if you don't have a carpet knife or tin snips.
I am sure another forum member will add more tips...there are more elaborate ways to do this ... but, I could do this if I had to !
I appreciate Ron's ability to do just about anything .
Kay

Hey- I have about zero skill too! A friend suggested I check out a local camper & trailer repair shop. The owner was very nice. I explained how I wanted to cover the steps/stairwell. He understood right away. He's also going to do a few other - non mechanical fixes for me too. Maybe you can find a truck repair shop that can help you with this. It took some courage I must admit to walk into a heavy duty truck repair shop. But hey- I've done that too. Good luck.

Find a shop that builds cabinets, bet they can build you one pretty quickly.

I built my own. 3/4" plywood stained it then covered in carpet on top.
