Lost 50 Lbs!

We're shaving weight any way we can. We've owned a convection microwave before and used it only for reheating occasional leftovers and coffee. So we don't have a need for it (at least the convection part-which is where all the weight is). It currently was used as a bead box. We were also surprised that it weighed over 70 lbs! We found a 20 lb LG microwave, brackets, reused some pieces of trim leftover from another project and some LED lights with a dimming touch switch.

Smart!
50pounds here, 50 pounds there… it adds up quick! I will be looking into that, I don’t even use a microwave at home so I might ditch mine entirely

And I like the flip down coffee cupboard too

Thanks, we just removed another 18 lbs by taking out the gas burner, but our oversized cutting board gained us 4 lbs. Oh well, we still like the way it looks.

I plan on that also! Friends said I was crazy. I didn’t buy this as a live in but more as an oversized SUV. I doubt I will do much cooking inside and if I do I would rather have an electric single burner I can place anywhere. My Ninja grill and hotpot are all I need.

Did you just cap off propane line under counter or disconnect from splitter underneath?

Counter/prep space is more important. Best 4pounds you added!

I love it….

I love it! Never thought of it as an oversized SUV.
I capped it under the counter. Ours was a 3/8 inch flare cap. I do plan on removing the splitter (because it no longer needs to split-just now goes to the water heater), and putting a coupling there to join the 1/2 in to the 3/8 inch line. This way the connections are all outside and I can remove all that heavy gas line. More weight savings!

Love the big honkin' oversized SUV <3

Sum moar fotos, says the deer.

(Almost forgot to say the deer cloth in back of little cabinet hides magnets, cleat, and protects glass tile from getting scratched.)

For us it’s not a weight advantage issue, but rather extra counter space.

We don’t cook in motorhomes when traveling and find that gas stoves take up more counter space than the benefit they provide for us. The smaller the motorhome, the more we prefer the additional contiguous counter space even if we have to occasionally use a portable induction or electric burner that can be stored in a drawer or cabinet somewhere, and taken out only when needed. We use our microwave quite often, and eat out a lot also, so the portable cooktop is now left at home because we never used it. We mostly “heat” prepared food or leftovers from eating out but don’t actually “cook” inside motorhomes.

If building myself a compact motorhome or refurbishing one someday, I would do the same and not install a cooktop at all. Not even a flush glass-top unit that allows working over it.

Yep, we love outdoor cooking and that's mostly what we do. Not that indoor cooking is uncool.....just rarely do we ever cook indoors....
