Magna Shade on an Axis?

Anyone have personal experience with adding Magna Shade to the windshield of an earlier model Axis or Vegas (with the larger windshield)? We contacted the manufacturer, and the spokesperson said that they did have the pattern to do it, but wanted to make sure we understood that the screen will not go all the way to the top of the windshield. She said it would stop where the shaded area begins.

My only concern with this would be that if heat still enters the motorhome in that area, it would kind of defeat the purpose. There is not cabinet there on the inside. Am I missing something? I'm less concerned with the appearance from the outside, just the issue of heat gain.

Thanks!

Shade

Rain and dew would easily get under it then and possibly cause mold issues.

Yeah I think you'd still get heat if the front cover didn't cover the whole windshield.

We have a Sunguard cover that covers the whole windshield. It works quite well keeping the heat out (and prying eyes during the day).

Jamie, do you have a pic or website for the Sunguard covers?

Here is the website: Sunguard RV Covers
Some pics of it on our Axis:

We got the 94% sunscreen model.

There is also more info on it in this thread: Busy Day with the Axis

I only put them on when we are camping. When its in storage I use foil on the inside of the windows to keep the sun out.

Thanks Jamie, so as near as I can tell you ended up using Velcro to secure?

Yes, still using Velcro. Over time the Velcro tends to come off of the camper (apparently even the industrial strength Velcro deteriorates with UV light and rain). So I keep a supply handy to replace the pads that come off.

Using snaps would be more secure...still not brave enough to drill into the fiberglass/gelcoat though LOL

We were hoping to avoid having to pull out a ladder to put the screen up, but maybe the Sunguard is just a better way to go.

Thanks, guys!

I got a Magne Shade for our Vegas with the large windshield. No problem with heat at the top! It is the shaded area on the windshield so no heat there.

I believe ANY shade will allow water underneath.

We used ours for 1 month in Baja, Mexico in Feb and Mar of this year. FANTASTIC product, I can install in less than a minute from the ground, and stores nicely in the bag I got with it.

Definitely would buy again!

After reading this, I also contacted the company. They said that the shade leaves about 4" of glass exposed. This is because the magnets cannot be installed at the top of the glass due to the headliner that is in the way.

Srolfe, fortunately, that four inches is tinted glass, so we're hoping for little to no difference in heat gain.

We ordered the Magna Shade and can't wait to get it. I'll report back! Now, to decide what to do about the side windows. Just couldn't bring ourselves to pay for the shades for them, so I might try to find a way to do the same shade fabric on the inside and install with suction cups. Or something!
