Mattress on OH drop down bunk

Has anyone replaced the mattress on the drop down overhead bunk on their ACE? That thing is very hard and I can't ask anyone adult to climb up there as is.
With the way it bends, and potential clearance issues, I was curious what solutions others have chosen.

I am considering full out changing it, as well as a topper. So what have YOU done?

We don't have an ACE but we do have a drop down bunk in our Axis. We replaced the air mattress with a foam one with pretty good results (its almost more comfortable than any we have at home).

We used the Foam By Mail website and custom built one (3" Memory foam and 3" hard foam--6" total, tri-fold so I can get it down easily. Yeah we can't stow it in the bunk when its all the way up; we throw it on the back beds in that case).

Welcome to Foam Factory, Inc.

I measured the bunk size and ordered a tri-fold mattress from The Foam Factory that was 3" memory foam and 3" HD36-HQ foam. The resulting 6" high mattress is too high to leave up there when the bunk is all the way up, though. So we take it down and throw it on the back beds when we travel. When we're camping we just raise the bunk until the mattress touches the ceiling.

A little off topic, but I have a new Vegas 24.1, just wondering where one can find sheet sets of proper size for the King/couch fold out/ overhead drop down??? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply. I found that a sofa bed mattress is the exact size and ordered a gel memory foam that is 4.5 inches thick. I will raise it up and drill new holes for the pins. I will post on how it goes. It will be here on March 1st.
