MEGA-Storage Compartment

Anybody come up with some tiedown options for this storage area?

My crystal ball is kinda cloudy this morning; what RV are you talking about?

It helps to put your RV information in your signature that shows up on every post. That way, when you ask questions like this, we have more information as to what RV the question pertains to.

Anyway, welcome to the forum and hopefully you'll get a useful answer.

Awwww Chance, how's he ever gonna learn if you do everything for him?

Wayne - now you're cooking! I don't recall any discussions about adding tie-downs but if you engineer the solution we'd appreciate seeing what you came up with. Congratulations on the new rig! Do a solid PDI when you go get it BEFORE you sign the paperwork. After signing you lose a lot of "get it fixed now" leverage.

Great dealership to work with. They told us to give them 2-2 1/2 hours for the PDI. We're going to go through it with a fine tooth comb. I'm betting they don't have a 30 amp hook up to test that.

You could consider adding tracks similar to what Winnebago did on new EKKO. The picture below is a screen shot showing tracks at bottom, both front and back. I think there are two more along top corners also. In picture they were joking about how guess could sleep in bike garage instead of a tent.

I’ve rented the 28A from Cruise America and didn’t tie things down, rather just loaded carefully and placed more fragile items in plastic tubs with some padding when necessary. Granted, I have no idea what you will be hauling.

Adding tracks along bottom may be a bit more difficult on 28A because of removable table and spare tire cover that must remain removable. You can probably find a place if necessary. Just a suggestion based on EKKO bike garage that I thought was done nicely.

If you turn it into a Mother-In-Law suite: all you'll need is a chair and some handcuffs...

It's going to depend on what is underneath the plastic flooring. I do have to work around the compartments. I've done lots of hauling and hate the idea of things sliding around!

Here’s a better picture of the L track Winnebago used. And they do have it at four corners. Keep in mind that unless you are going to haul very heavy items, you may not need to bolt through floor. Front and back walls may work.

For smaller items, there’s quite a bit of space under removable picnic table and tire cover.

You didn’t ask about this, but I’ll mention it anyway. The 28A has a very long rear overhang, and loading the large MegaStorage compartment at very rear with heavy items can make front end light, affecting handling even more than normal. Just a heads up.

Are the handcuffs for containing the mother-in-law, or some other....activity?

Not my first rodeo, but thanks for the tip. I utilize tubs and such for organization. Those tend to move around quite a bit.

2 to 2 1/2 hours for a PDI is too fast. A good PDI should be 4 hours to check every system and learn about operation. Hot water alone needs to be checked with LPG then the tank drained refilled and checked again with electric.

So, should I let them do their "walk through" and then do my own PDI there at the dealership and before I sign papers?

That's pretty much what I do, especially if you're experienced in RV systems. On my current MH the tech did the walkthrough in under an hour then went about his business in the bay next door. When I found an issue (like the house batteries wouldn't even start the generator) I just walked over and got his attention and he resolved the issue on the spot (two brand new house batteries). When I was satisfied everything worked as it was supposed to I headed in to the sales department to finish the deal. I was happy with the deal, happy with the MH, and have never been back for warranty or "we owe you" issues, but peruse their "Camping Store" frequently.

That's what I was thinking. My son-in-law has a toy trailer and it seems like it spends half of the time in shop getting warranty work being done.

Ours was four and a-half hours, and worth every second of it!
