Exhaust Pipe

I have a 2016 Thor Axis 24.1 and the exhaust pipe bottoms out going down the slightest slope. Does anyone have this problem and a solution?

Welcome to the forum! Congratulations, you have presented a challenge few if any of us have seen! Pictures would help, but it is likely that your tailpipe has been bent.

Thanks, but it is not bent and looks like your photo. I have seen many RVs bottom out going out of the RV park we were at in Huntington Beach,CA and ours bottoms out on my slopes but not all. Someone suggested running the exhaust in front of the rear wheels.

Seems really odd that the exhaust pipe would drag. Are you sure it is not the molding under the steps that is dragging? That has been discussed here before, maybe a couple of years ago. Or possibly the generator exhaust pipe?

One of the great things about Vegas/Axis is that they don't have much overhang behind the rear wheels. Due to this, they are much less likely to drag than those longer coaches with the same wheelbase. With the exhaust right behind the tire mud flap, you would have to have a really sharp and deep dip to drag that engine exhaust pipe.

Experienced drivers will watch for dips leaving or entering a driveway, and look for an alternative driveway or at least try to take it at an angle. As always, easy does it.

The Axis/Vegas units also have the two "skid" bars hanging off the rear of the frame: is it those that are dragging?

Those lasted probably two trips up and down my driveway until we had the steel rollers put in their place.

We have had NO problem with our exhaust pipe dragging ... Ron put a strip of metal on the mud flap to prevent the flap from hitting the exhaust pipe..but, that is the only issue we have had regarding that placement.

Thanks. It turns out it was the V struts and I have seen the roller mod recommended.
