Palazzo Entry Door

I'm just curious if anyone has ditched the entry door strut for a bumper and tie-back of some kind. The screws for the brackets are routinely coming loose on the door strut on my unit and the 90 degree opening is somewhat restrictive.

There's room behind the door (won't hit the awning arm), so I'm seriously considering it ...

My strut finally gave up the ghost. I'm using a bumper stop behind the door at the moment. It's surely not ideal as the door begins to close if the wind blows from the front->back of the RV.

I'm sure that the real solution is to use a door holder bracket, but I'm not ready to start drilling new holes into the exterior of the bus just yet.

Thanks Tearstone! I just ordered a couple of marine magnetic door holders from Amazon and we'll see how they fit up. I'm more concerned about ripping the current mounting screws out in our Texas winds than putting new holes in the coach at the moment ...

I'll keep you posted ...

yep, removed the gas strut early one for two reasons: it doesn't allow you to move the door 'out of the way' when you don't want it at 90degrees while you're parked, and the strut 'opens' the door, whether you like it or not!

I added a simple rv door latch/catch and it works very fine. The door can stay 'completely' open when we are parked, and in good weather, and it's out of the way while we 'come and go'.

now, if we could just do something about that 'sticking' screen door!!

Thanks TurnerFam! I did a couple of Dremel mods to my screen door latch and it isn't sticking for now. I'll send you some picks if you want but basically I moved the striker (on the door) down to get the most lever movement and then took the Dremel to the striker to make it a steeper pitch and then to the latch arm to get it to move downward more easily ...

As I said, so far so good ...
